Mylaudy is one of the town panchayats [1] in Kanniyakumari district in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. It is a town rich in fields, mountains, rivers and natural resources. Before 1950, Mylaudy was part of South Travancore. Now it is in Kanniyakumari district of Tamil Nadu.

Generally, the middlemen and wholesale businessmen purchase the Agricultural products from the farmers at a lower price. They also get the commission from the farmers for the transactions made. In turn, fresh vegetables and fruits purchased at the lower price from the farmers are sold out to retail businessmen at higher price and the retail businessmen sell those Agricultural Products further at higher price to the consumers. As a result, the farmers get only the lower price for their produce whereas the consumers have to pay higher price for the same produce. Hence, the Government of Tamilnadu has introduced an alternate scheme of marketing, which is known as “UZHAVAR SANTHAI” in order to derive more benefits to the farmers as well as consumers.
As of 2011 [update] India census, [11] Mylaudy had a population of 8961. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Myladi has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 76%, and female literacy is 68%. In Mylaudy, 11% of the population is under 6 years of age. Here religions like Hinduism, Christianity, and Islam are followed.
The Ringeltaube Vethamonikam Memorial Church here, [12] founded by Christian missionary William Tobias Ringeltaube, [13] is one of the largest and oldest churches in India, 1st CSI Church in South Travancore.
Mylaudy is famous for its stone sculptures, stone cutting with large machines and stone temple making. Many idols next to Mahabalipuram were build in Mylaudy. [14] Even the Kattabomman statue in Kayatharu and Thiruvalluvar Statue in Chennai were created here. All these examples are a testimony to the skills of the Sirpis of Mylaudy, who even carve idols out of a single stone. In recognition of these unique statues, they were given Geographical Indications on March 31st, 2023.
Coconut and Paddy are the major plantations in Mylaudy. Despite being surrounded by two mountains, the Eastern and Western Ghats, scientists are of the opinion that there is no possibility of earthquake or tsunami in Mylaudy.

Padmanabhapuram was the capital of Travancore state in the past. In 1795, the King of Travancore, Rama Varma (known as Dharma Raja moved the capital from Padmanabhapuram to Thiruvananthapuram. At that time the boundaries of Travancore state included half the area of modem Kerala state. In 1947, after independence, Padmanabhapuram became part of Travancore-Cochin state When Indian states ware reorganized on the basis of language. In 1957, Padmanabhapuram along with other Tamil-speaking areas were ceded to Madras State, while the Malayalam-speaking areas became part of Kerala. Later the name of Madras State was changed to Tamil Nadu.
Eraniel is a panchayat town in Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu, India. The Statue of Wisdom, or the Valluvar Statue, is a 41-metre-tall(133 ft) stone sculpture of the Tamil poet and philosopher Valluvar, known as Thiruvalluvar, the author of the Thirukkural, an ancient Tamil work on morality. It is located atop a small island near the town of Kanniyakumari on the southernmost point of the Indian peninsula in the state Tamil Nadu, India, where two seas and an ocean meet. The statue was sculpted by Indian sculptor V. Ganapati Sthapati, who also created the Iraivan Temple, and was unveiled on the millennium day of 1 January 2000 by the then Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. It is currently the 25th tallest statue in India. During its silver jubilee celebrations, the Government of Tamil Nadu declared the statue as the “Statue of Wisdom”.
Agasteeswaram taluk is a taluk located in Kanyakumari district, Tamil Nadu, India. The headquarters of the taluk is the town of Nagercoil. The taluk was among several in Thiruvananthapuram district that with the passage of the States Reorganisation Act of 1956 were transferred from Thiruvananthapuram district, Travancore-Cochin State to the newly created Kanyakumari district of Madras State.
William Tobias Ringeltaube, or Wilhelm Tobias Ringeltaube (1770- ?) was the first Protestant missionary in the far south of India. He spent much of his time in Travancore. He was the first child of Gottlieb Ringeltaube, Vicar of Scheidelwitz, near Brzeg, in Silesia, Prussia. He was born on 8 August 1770. The cause and date of his death are uncertain, but it is widely believed that he died of liver failure whilst on a voyage to Africa. Others believe that he was killed by the natives whilst on a mission to Jakarta.
Kanyakumari Diocese is one of the 24 dioceses under the Church of South India, a United Protestant denomination. The diocese was constituted on 2 June 1959. The South Travancore Diocese was bifurcated into the Kanyakumari Diocese and the South Kerala Diocese in 1959. and the I.R.H. Gnanadason was the first Bishop of the Kanyakumari Diocese.
The present-day Kanyakumari district and parts of Tenkasi district of Tamil Nadu state in India was originally a part of the Travancore-Cochin state. Between 1945 and 1956, especially after the Government of India announced plans to reorganize states along linguistic lines, the people of Tamil-majority Kanyakumari campaigned for its inclusion in the Madras State instead of the Malayalam-majority Kerala state. In Tamil, the campaign is also known as Therkku Ellai Porattam.
