San Mateo County, officially the County of San Mateo, is a county located in the U.S. state of California. As of the 2020 census, the population was 764,442. Redwood City is the county seat, and the third most populated city following Daly City and San Mateo. San Mateo County is included in the San Francisco-Oakland-Berkeley, CA MSA, Silicon Valley, and is part of the San Francisco Bay Area, the nine counties bordering San Francisco Bay. It covers most of the San Francisco Peninsula. San Francisco International Airport is located in the northeastern area of the county and is approximately 7 miles south of the city and county limits of San Francisco. The county's built-up areas are mostly suburban, and are home to several corporate campuses.

Bernard Ralph Maybeck was an American architect in the Arts and Crafts Movement of the early 20th century. He was an instructor at University of California, Berkeley. Most of his major buildings were in the San Francisco Bay Area.

The Feusier Octagon House is an historic octagonal house located at 1067 Green Street, in the Russian Hill neighborhood of San Francisco, California. It was built between 1857 and 1858 by George Kenny, who sold it in 1870 to Louis Feusier. It is San Francisco Landmark 36 and is one of two surviving octagon houses in the city.
The McElroy Octagon House, also known as the Colonial Dames Octagon House, is a historic octagonal house now located at 2645 Gough Street at Union Street in the Cow Hollow neighborhood of San Francisco, California. On February 23, 1972, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places. The house is open to the public for tours.
San Carlos School District is a K-8 elementary school district in San Carlos, California. It consists of 2 middle schools, 4 lower elementary schools, 2 upper elementary schools, and 1 K-8 charter school, which holds the distinction of being the first charter school in California and the second in the nation. The District currently serves more than 2,600 students. After graduating from 8th grade, students typically go on to the Sequoia Union High School District, and most often to Sequoia High School or Carlmont High School.
The San Francisco Bay Discovery Site is a marker commemorating the first recorded European sighting of San Francisco Bay. In 1769, the Portola expedition traveled north by land from San Diego, seeking to establish a base at the Port of Monterey described by Sebastian Vizcaino in 1602. When they reached Monterey, however, they were not sure it was the right place and decided to continue north. The party reached San Pedro Creek on October 31 and camped there for four nights, while scouts led by José Francisco Ortega climbed Sweeney Ridge, where they could see over the ridge toward the east, and so became the first Europeans to see San Francisco Bay on November 1.

The Masonic Temple in Ferndale, California is located at 212 Francis Street, in an Eastlake-Stick style building built in 1891. The Masonic Hall is a contributing property in the Ferndale Main Street Historic District which was added on 10 January 1994 to the National Register of Historic Places. Ferndale Masonic Lodge F & A. M. #193 holds meetings in the building.
The San Mateo County History Museum is located in downtown Redwood City, California. Housed inside the former San Mateo County Courthouse built in 1910, the museum showcases the rich history of San Mateo County and the surrounding area. Operations and funding for the museum are by the San Mateo County Historical Association (SMCHA). The current location of this museum opened on February 6, 1999, however from 1963 until 1998 the museum was located at the College of San Mateo. The building is a product of the City Beautiful Movement (1893-1920) and has a stained-glass dome thought to be the largest of its kind on the West Coast.
The Redwood City Historic Commercial Buildings is an historic district in Redwood City, California that comprises four buildings constructed from 1859-1912. These buildings include the Pioneer Store, the Bank of San Mateo County building, the Sequoia Hotel, and the Alhambra Theater.
Folger Estate Stable Historic District also known as Jones Ranch, Mountain Home Ranch, is located at 4040 Woodside Road in Woodside, California at Wunderlich Park, with the majority of the historic buildings built between 1905 and 1906. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on April 16, 2004. The historic district is a three-acre site with ten buildings, including the main horse stable building, carriage house, stone walls lining the roads, blacksmith barn, and the cold house.
Holbrook-Palmer Estate, also known as Elmwood is a historic estate and public park located at 150 Watkins Avenue in Atherton, California. The water tower (c.1883) and the carriage house (c.1897) were listed on the National Register of Historic Places on September 26, 2016.
James Johnston House was built between 1853 and 1855, and is a historical building in Half Moon Bay, California. Sometimes referred to as the "White House of Half Moon Bay". It is listed on the National Register of Historic Places since May 9, 1973. The building currently serves as a museum and community event space.
Kohl Mansion, also known as The Oaks, was built in 1914 and is located at 2750 Adeline Drive in Burlingame, California. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places for its architecture and social and cultural significance to the local area in 1982. The Kohl Mansion is open to the public for events and is used for weddings.
Arthur and Mona Hofmann House, also known as the Hofmann House, was built in 1937 and is a historic home located at 1048 Cuesta Road in Hillsborough, California. The building was designed by Modernist architect Richard Neutra in International Style. It has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since August 5, 1991. The house is a private residence and not open to the public.
