The National Centre for Computing Education is a government-funded initiative, offering teacher training and resources for computing.
The National Centre for Computing Education provides professional development in computing education for primary and secondary schools and colleges, including face-to-face courses around England, and remote and online courses. It provides a repository of teaching resources for computing through its website, teachcomputing.org. It also offers additional support through Isaac Computer Science, , a free online platform for GCSE and A level computer science students and teachers.
The National Centre is operated by a network of school-based Computing Hubs teachcomputing.org/hubs, geographically distributed around England. These Hubs ensure that the programme is school-led and reflects the needs of teachers on the ground.
The centre was set up following the January 2016 government report Digital Skills for the UK Economy [1] which highlighted the digital skills gap in the UK economy, produced by the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS), which looked at research carried out by the UK Commission for Employment and Skills (UKCES), which itself closed in 2017.
Funding of £84m was announced in the November 2017 United Kingdom budget to upskill around 8000 computer science teachers. Simon Peyton Jones FRS, of Microsoft Research, was appointed as the organisation's chairman in March 2019. [2]
In 2023, the Department for Education renewed its funding for STEM Learning to deliver the next phase of its national support for computing education in England.

[2] It has been created by STEM Learning at the University of York, the BCS (British Computer Society) and the Raspberry Pi Foundation. It is funded by the Department for Education. The Department of Computer Science and Technology, University of Cambridge will also provide assistance.

In England, a City Technology College (CTC) is an urban all-ability specialist school for students aged 11 to 18 specialising in science, technology and mathematics. They charge no fees and are independent of local authority control, being overseen directly by the Department for Education. One fifth of the capital costs are met by private business sponsors, who also own or lease the buildings. The rest of the capital costs, and all running costs, are met by the Department.

Greenhead College is a sixth form college, and former grammar school, located in Huddersfield, in the county of West Yorkshire, England. The current principal is Simon Lett. With over 2,700 students, it is a large sixth form college, attracting students from as far afield as Wakefield, Manchester, Barnsley, Bradford, Leeds, Halifax, Wetherby and even Wales. It is located next to Greenhead Park which is one of the largest parks in Huddersfield.

Bashir Mohammed Ali Al-Hashimi, CBE, FRS, FREng, FIEEE, FIET, FBCS is a recognised multidisciplinary global researcher with sustained and pioneering contributions to computer engineering and a prominent academic and higher education leader. He is Vice President and ARM Professor of Computer Engineering at King's College London in the United Kingdom. He was the co-founder and co-director of the ARM-ECS Research Centre, an industry-university collaboration partnership involving the University of Southampton and ARM. He is actively involved in promoting science and engineering for young people and regularly contributes to engineering higher education and skills national debates.

Susan Sentance is a British computer scientist, educator and director of the Raspberry Pi Foundation Computing Education Research Centre at the University of Cambridge. Her research investigates a wide range of issues computer science education, teacher education and the professional development of those teaching computing. In 2020 Sentance was awarded a Suffrage Science award for her work on computing education.
