Oregon station is a historic train station in the Ogle County, Illinois county seat of Oregon. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in July 1997 as the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Depot.

Architecture

This former railroad depot possesses stone and brick walls. The building stands on a concrete foundation and has a ceramic tile roof. [2] There also is some stucco work in the structure. [2] It was constructed around 1913 and designed by the firm of T.S. Leake & Company. [2]

Significance

The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad Depot in Oregon, Illinois was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on July 25, 1997 for its significance in transportation. [2]

Canton station is a historic Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad station located on 4th Avenue in Canton, Illinois. Built in 1914, the station was the second built by the CB&Q in Canton since it began service to the city in the early 1860s. The CB&Q was one of two railroads to serve Canton, along with the Toledo, Peoria & Western Railroad. As the area had few paved roads at the time, the station was the departure point for the city's business travelers, vacationers, and servicemen in World War I and II. Five passenger trains a day, three during daytime and two at night, served the station in its first decade. The station also served freight trains that exported the area's industrial products, which were mainly farming equipment and coal. The popularity of the passenger trains began to decline as roads became better and more popular; as a result, the night trains were cancelled in 1950 and passenger service to the station ended completely in 1961. Freight service also ended in 1980, at which point the railroad had merged into the Burlington Northern; the city bought the station from the railroad in 1989.

The Orendorf Site is a prehistoric archaeological site located near the city of Canton, Fulton County, Illinois. The site includes four distinct areas of Middle Mississippian settlement; the settlement area was one of seven major sites in the Spoon River tradition. The four settlement sites within the larger site came as the result of a single village relocating multiple times; this movement became useful to archaeologists, as artifacts from different periods are spread out rather than mixed together at a single site. The settlement functioned as a regional center within the Spoon River culture, making it a hub in its hierarchal political organization and part of many important trade routes. Trade and migration linked the settlement to the large Mississippian city of Cahokia; while the settlement's culture had much in common with Cahokian culture, it was also a distinct regional culture in its own right.

The Two Brothers Roundhouse, formerly the Walter Payton Roundhouse, America's Historical Roundhouse, and Chicago, Burlington, & Quincy Roundhouse and Locomotive Shop is a historic building converted to a restaurant in Aurora, Illinois. It was originally constructed in 1856 as a roundhouse for the Chicago & Aurora Railroad and served in this capacity until 1974. It was abandoned until 1995, when a group of investors led by Walter Payton purchased it and converted the building to an entertainment complex. Its most recent tenant is Two Brothers Brewing. The building is the oldest limestone roundhouse in the United States and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Centerville station, now known as the Appanoose County Post 526 VFW Hall, is an historic train station located in Centerville, Iowa, United States. The Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad (CB&Q) bought the Keokuk & Western Railroad in 1903. Centerville served as a dividing point on the line and by 1910 the people in the town started to plan for a larger station. Its architect is unknown, but the depot was probably designed by a CB&Q architect using fairly standard plans that were used by the railroad at the time. Construction of the Prairie School style building began in July 1911 and it was completed in February of the following year. Local contractor B.S. Staley built the building. The building was used by the CB&Q until 1982. It was bought by the Appanoose County VFW post for their meeting hall in 1990 and it was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 as the CB&Q Passenger Depot.

Chariton freight station is an historic building located in Chariton, Iowa, United States. Chariton was a wholesale and distribution center for southern Iowa when the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad built the freight house in 1904. It reflected the town's importance as a division point for the railroad. The structure contains 3,700 square feet (340 m2) of interior space. The depot was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2003 as the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Freight House-Chariton.

Chicago, Burlington Northern and Quincy Depot, also known as the Red Oak Burlington Northern Depot and WWII Memorial Museum, is a historic train depot located in Red Oak, Iowa, United States. The city of Red Oak was established by the Burlington and Missouri River Railroad as Red Oak Junction. That railroad was acquired by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and they laid out a new right-of-way in southwest Iowa in the late 19th century to lessen the grade. It required a new depot in Red Oak, which was built from 1900 to 1903.

Amtrak moved to the historic station in 2019 from a small station immediately to its east that had been used since 1969. The Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Passenger Depot-Pella, also known as the Pella Depot and the Rolscreen Museum, is a historic building located in Pella, Iowa, United States. The Des Moines Valley Railroad built the first tracks through the area in 1865, and they built a simple frame depot to serve passenger's needs. For 10 years, Pella served as the only rail stop in Marion County until a competing station was built in Knoxville, Iowa by the Chicago, Burlington, and Quincy Railroad. The Chicago, Rock Island & Pacific Railroad leased the Des Moines Valley's tracks beginning in 1878 and provided freight service through 1980. The old frame building was replaced, in 1906, with a single story, brick depot–a conventional building style for the railroad. The new, brick depot served as a passenger station until the latter 1940s. The last passenger service was as a stop on a short line motor train service between Eldon in southeast Iowa and Des Moines. The station was freight only by 1949.

It was built in 1921 by the Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad, and is a simple one-story, hollow tile and red brick building measuring 100 feet by 25 feet. It sits on a concrete foundation and has a gable roof. It houses a local history museum.
