The Scottish Football Writers' Association International Player of the Year (often called the SFWA International Player of the Year) award is given to the player in the Scotland national football team who is seen to have made the best contribution to the previous season. The award is given by the Scottish Football Writers' Association (SFWA).
As of 2024, the award has been made 17 times and has been won by 13 different players. The award was first made in 2008, and was won by forward James McFadden. [1] As of 2022, Robert Snodgrass (2) and John McGinn (4) are the only players to have won the award more than once.

Steven Davis is a Northern Irish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. He made his full international debut in 2005 and made 140 appearances at senior level, scoring 13 goals, to become the most capped Northern Ireland player, also a record for any man from the British home nations. He captained his country at UEFA Euro 2016 where they reached the last 16.

The PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year, formerly known as the Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year, is named at the end of every Scottish football season. The members of the Professional Footballers' Association Scotland vote on which of its young members played the best football in the previous year. The award was first given in 1978, to Graeme Payne. The Bulgarian international Stiliyan Petrov was the first non-Scottish player to win the award, when he did so in 2001.

James Clark Morrison is a football coach and former player, who is currently a first-team coach with West Bromwich Albion and the Scotland national team. Morrison played as a midfielder for Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion between 2004 and 2019, and is regarded as one of the greatest midfielders in West Bromwich Albion's history. After representing various England junior sides, Morrison chose to play for Scotland at full international level and he made 46 full international appearances for them between 2008 and 2017.

The Scottish Football Writers' Association Young Player of the Year award is given to the footballer in the Scottish football league system, who is seen to have been the best young player of the previous season. The shortlist is compiled by the members of the Scottish Football Writers' Association, who also vote for the winner.
The Scottish Football Writers' Association Footballer of the Year is an annual award given to the player who is adjudged to have been the best of the season in Scottish football. The award has been presented since the 1964–65 season, and the winner is selected by a vote amongst the members of the Scottish Football Writers' Association (SFWA), which comprises over 100 football journalists based throughout Scotland. The first winner was Celtic's Billy McNeill, and the first non-Scottish winner was Mark Hateley of Rangers in 1994. Seven players have won the award on more than one occasion, and one, Craig Gordon, three times, winning his third award in the 2021–22 season.

The award replaced, and is considered a direct continuation of, the SPFA Manager of the Year award which was awarded just once, in the 2006–07 season to Celtic boss Gordon Strachan.

The 2020–21 season was the 124th season of competitive football in Scotland. The domestic season began on 1 August 2020 with the first round of matches in the 2020–21 Scottish Premiership. The start of all other domestic competitions were delayed until at least October 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic, and most games were played behind closed doors due to Scottish Government restrictions.
