    Navjot Singh Sidhu is an Indian politician from the Indian National Congress, television personality and retired international cricketer. He is the former President of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee. Formerly, he was the Minister of Tourism and Cultural Affairs in the state government of State of Punjab. Sidhu joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2004 and contested the general election from Amritsar that year. He won the election and held the seat till 2014 winning also the next election. In 2017, he joined the Indian National Congress and was elected to the Punjab Legislative Assembly from Amritsar East.     Khushwant SinghFKC was an Indian author, lawyer, diplomat, journalist and politician. His experience in the 1947 Partition of India inspired him to write Train to Pakistan in 1956, which became his most well-known novel.

    Satpal Singh, also known as Guru Satpal, is a wrestling coach and former wrestler of India. He was a gold medalist in 1982 Asian Games and a bronze medalist in 1974 Asian Games. Today he is better known as the coach of Olympic medal winners Sushil Kumar and Ravi Kumar Dahiya.

    Shivajirao Girdhar Patil was an Indian social activist and politician from the state of Maharashtra. He began his social activism at an early age when he participated in the Indian independence movement. Post-independence, he was associated with various political parties and had been member of the Maharashtra Legislative Council, Maharashtra Legislative Assembly and even the Rajya Sabha for one term. In 2013, he was presented with the Padma Bhushan, India's third highest civilian award. He was the father of Indian film actress Smita Patil.

    Vimla Dang (1926–2009) was an Indian social worker and politician, known for propounding the Dang school of Politics, reportedly a stream of politics adhering to the values of integrity and honesty. She was a leader of the Communist Party of India and a Member of the Punjab Legislative Assembly representing Amritsar West constituency. Two of the organizations she co-founded, Punjab Istri Sabha and the Punjab Istri Sabha Relief Trust are engaged in providing education to the children of those who lost their lives during the Punjab insurgency of the 1970s and 80s. The Government of India awarded her the fourth highest civilian honour of the Padma Shri in 1991.

    <span class="mw-page-title-main">Sardara Singh Johl</span> Indian economist

    Sardara Singh Johl is an Indian agriculture economist, writer, politician and the chancellor of the Central University of Punjab. A former National Professor of Agricultural Economics of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, he served as the vice chancellor of the Punjabi University and Punjab Agricultural University during different tenures and chaired the Commission for Agricultural Costs and Prices set up by the Government of India. He is a former director of the Central Board of Governors of the Reserve Bank of India and a former consultant to international bodies such as Food and Agriculture Organization, World Bank and United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 2004, for his contributions to Agriculture and agriculture education.

    The 1969 Punjab Legislative Assembly election was the fifth Vidhan Sabha election of the state. This was the second hung assembly. Shiromani Akali Dal emerged as the largest party with 43 seats in the 104-seat legislature in the election. The Indian National Congress became the second, holding 38 seats. On 13 June 1971, Assembly dissolved prematurely and president rule was imposed.

    The 1972 Punjab Legislative Assembly election was the sixth Vidhan Sabha election of the state. Indian National Congress emerged as the victorious party with 66 seats in the 104-seat legislature in the election. The Shiromani Akali Dal became the official opposition, holding 24 seats. On 30 April 1977, Assembly dissolved and president rule was imposed.
