This train features a 2AC, a 3AC, a HA-1 AC, Sleeper Class and general sitting type of coaches. All the classes except general class require prior reservation. Tatkal scheme is available in this train, whereas pantry car facility is unavailable. This train is very popular among travelers; as a result of this people have to book their tickets at least four months in advance and even in some cases the Tatkal tickets are unavailable due to their high demand.[ citation needed ] This is one of the most important train in this route after Purvanchal Express via Mau.

It used to run as New Delhi - Sealdah Duronto Express and was the first Duronto Express to be launched as announced in the Railway budget of 2008/09. On 24 February 2020, it was extended beyond New Delhi to Bikaner, thereby becoming not only the first Duronto service to Bikaner but also one connecting New Delhi and Bikaner. It was the fastest Duronto Express in India when it operated from Sealdah to New Delhi. It is the second fastest train to connect New Delhi to Kolkata by rail.

It was officially inaugurated on 11 March 2005 from Sealdah and on 12 March 2005 from Delhi.
