Taos Inn is an historic inn located in Taos, New Mexico. It is made up of several adobe houses dating from the 19th century, one of which was a home of Thomas "Doc" Martin which hosted the formative meeting of the Taos Society of Artists in 1915. After Doc's death, his widow Helen Martin converted the houses into a hotel, which opened on June 7, 1936 [2] as Hotel Martin. [3] The name was changed to "Taos Inn" by subsequent owners.

Contents

It was added to the New Mexico State Register of Cultural Properties in 1981 [4] and to the National Register of Historic Places in 1982. [1]

The Taos Inn was acquired by Imprint Hospitality group in January 2019. [5]

Doc Martin's restaurant

Taos Inn is home to Doc Martin's, a restaurant located in the former offices of Doc Martin. As of December 2018 Doc Martin's has won 29 annual Wine Spectator "Awards of Excellence". [6]

Doc Martin's is famous for its Chile Rellenos and Award Winning Green Chile.[ citation needed ]

The D. H. Lawrence Ranch, as it is now known, was the New Mexico residence of the English novelist D. H. Lawrence for about two years during the 1920s and the only property Lawrence and his wife Frieda owned. The 160-acre (65 ha) property, originally named the Kiowa Ranch, is located about eighteen miles (29 km) northwest of Taos, New Mexico, near Lobo Mountain and San Cristobal in Taos County, at about 8,600 feet (2,600 m) above sea level. Thomas Paul "Doc" Martin was an American physician. He was one of the first American residents of Taos County, New Mexico and the first practicing physician in Taos.

The Taos Art Museum is an art museum located in Taos, New Mexico in the Nicolai Fechin House. This was the home of Russian artist Nicolai Fechin, his wife Alexandra, and daughter Eya. The museum's primary aims are to improve awareness of the works and patronage of Taos artists and to nurture local artistic development. Many of the works of the Taos Society of Artists are held by museums outside of New Mexico, leading them to work to "Bring Taos art back to Taos."
