The Cochin College is one of the oldest Arts and Science colleges located in Kochi. Founded on 15 July 1967 as a junior college, the institution grew into a postgraduate college in 1995. In February 2012, the college was accredited by NAAC with B Grade (2.85). The Cochin College is sponsored by the Cochin Education Society which was founded as a result of the joint efforts of Indian Chamber of Commerce and the former Mattancherry Municipal Council. The College is affiliated to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam.

Sree Sankara College was founded in the year 1954 by Swami Agamananda, a social reformer and a foresighted scholar of Sri Ramakrishna Advaita Ashram. The institution was established with a view to perpetuating the memory and doctrines of the great saint and philosopher, Adi Sankaracharya and to nurture his birthplace as a cultural citadel. St. Paul's College, Kalamassery located at Kochi was founded by Joseph Attipetty, the late Archbishop of Verapoly to commemorate the historic visit of Pope Paul VI to India in connection with the 38th International Eucharistic Congress held in November - December 1964. The foundation stone of the college was blessed by the pope on 3 December 1964 and was solemnly laid by Samuel Mathai, the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Kerala in the presence of Joseph Attipetty on 13 February 1965. Out of his filial devotion to the Pope, the founder desired that the college be named after the Apostle Paul, the patron saint of the Pope.
