Origins

President of US Donald Trump launched White House Wire on May 1, 2025. The website's purpose was to be a news agreggaton website that promotes news favoring Trump to counter criticism of him in the media. The site's design took inspiration from Drudge Report, formerly conservative news agreggation website, and has similar looking bulletin-boards with columns that link to Pro-Trump news articles. [2] [3] Visitors noted that the site has a white background and written in large, bold text, similar to the Drudge report. [4] It was also noted that the site usually republishes articles with all-caps headlines, just like the Drudge Report. [5] White House Wire styled itself as an "alternative outlet" made for Trump supporters who wanted to see pro-Trump administration content and avoid mainstream media outlets that were labeled by Trump as "fake news". [6] White House promoted the website on Twitter on the day ofit's its foundation, writing: “The White House has its own wire now, Read what we’re reading”. [7]

Content and analysis

White House Wire is hosted on White Houses's website (wh.gov), it republishes press releases and social media posts made by the government. One White House employee interviewed by Axios said the website's news are "transparent" and that it was created to be "a place where supporters of the president's agenda can get real news". [3] The news aggregated by the website featured articles from mainstream media outlets like AP News and ABC News that happen to say something positive about Trump. Other outlets seen on the website were Fox News, Newsweek op-eds, [8] articles from The Daily Caller and Twitter posts. [5] Headlines on the website were seen promoting various politicians, like Kristi Noem, Pam Bondi and Marco Rubio. On the day of the site's launch, the headlines in the website reportedly praised Trump's accomplishments in his first 100 days in office. [9]

A study of the White House Wire in August 2025 revealed that one of the biggest sources used on the website were White House's YouTube channel, White House's website, Fox News and Breitbart News. It also found that there was a decrease in links to Twitter after Trump–Musk feud. [10] AllSides analysis of the website's sources that appeared within two-week period (starting from May 2025) found that 44% of them were created by Donald Trump, in a form of press releases or social media posts. 56% of other sources were from news outlets, half of which were right-wing. [11] Analysis of the website by Jim Nielsen two months after it's creation found that YouTube had most links in the website, followed by Fox News, The Post Millennial , and Fox Business . All YouTube links were reported to lead to content made by the Trump administration. [12]

Reactions

On the day of the site's foundation, founder of Drudge Report, Matt Drudge, jokingly said he is considering $1 trillion lawsuit against the website. [8] [7] Drudge Report published stories that mocked the website, with one saying: "IT TAKES AN ENTIRE WEST WING TO COMPETE WITH DRUDGE". [13] Son of president Trump, Donald Trump Jr, praised the website and stated in a Twitter post: "Give a middle finger to the fake news and check out WH Wire!!!!". [14] It was noted by The Verge on July 3, 2025, that the creation of the website happened during a time when Trump Administration began to act hostile to mainstream media outlets who criticised Trump. [12]

The Atlantic called the website "propagandistic" and said it is the example of Trump administration's efforts against mainstream media. [15] Reporters Without Borders called the site a "taxpayer-funded propaganda site". [16] Some users of social media compared the site to state media or state-propoganda. [17] TechNews criticized the website, saying it is a sign that the US government is becoming hostile to independent journalism. [18]
