Whitton Baptist Church is a church in Hounslow Road, Whitton in Richmond upon Thames, London. It is a member of the London Baptist Association. [1]

History

The two foundation stones set into the front wall of the church carry the date October 20, 1934. [2] The present church building was opened on 6 April 1935. The new building, financed by the sale of St Margarets Baptist Church, replaced Whitton Gospel Hall which had opened in 1881. [2]

The church's halls were opened in September 1968 on the site of an old tennis court. They replaced two previous halls, one of which was destroyed in a fire in 1966, and the other on a site which is now part of the church's car park. [2]

Whitton railway station is in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in southwest London, within Travelcard Zone 5. It is 12 miles 43 chains (20.2 km) down the line from London Waterloo. The station and all trains serving it are operated by South Western Railway. The station was extensively refurbished and its main buildings replaced 2015—2016. The footbridge was replaced so as to incorporate optional lifts to the platforms. Whitton station has a ticket office above the up (London-bound) platform containing a coffee shop, a taxi office, ticket machines and a disabled toilet. To allow unmanned service the calling point lacks ticket barriers. South West trains has operated on a majority of weekday services since 2014 its air-conditioned ten-coach trains. The platforms were extended at the eastern ends in February 2012. A coffee shop opened following a two-year hiatus in 2011.

Kneller Hall

Kneller Hall is a Grade II listed mansion in Whitton, in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It houses the Royal Military School of Music, training musicians for the British Army, which acquired the building in the mid-19th century. It is also home to the school's Museum of Army Music. The Army is scheduled to vacate the site in 2021.

It opened in 1967 to replace a 140-year predecessor on West Street in central Brighton, but was closed in 2012 and demolished over the 2017–2018 Christmas and New Year period. Houses and flats now occupy the site; the development was completed in December 2019.
