Yashwant Sagar is a dam reservoir on Gambhir river, located around 26 kilometers west of Indore near Hatod village on Indore-Depalpur road in Indore district of Madhya Pradesh. It supplies water to Indore. It is spread over around 2,650 hectares. [2] [3] It was built in 1939. [4]

It is one of the strongholds of the vulnerable Sarus crane in central India. It is also one of the 19 Important Bird Areas of Madhya Pradesh. Also it is one of the two IBAs in Indore region as well as one of the most important birding sites in Malwa. [5] The reservoir has been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 2022. [1]

The Narmada River, also called the Reva and previously also known as Narbada or anglicised as Nerbudda, is the 5th longest river and overall longest west-flowing river in India. It is also the largest flowing river in the state of Madhya Pradesh. This river flows through the states of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat in India. It is also known as the "Life Line of Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat" due to its huge contribution to the two states in many ways. The Narmada River rises from the Amarkantak Plateau in Anuppur district Madhya Pradesh. Maharana Pratap Sagar, also known as Pong Reservoir or Pong Dam Lake is a large reservoir in Fatehpur, Jawali and Dehra tehsil of Kangra district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It was created in 1975, by building the highest earthfill dam in India on the Beas River in the wetland zone of the Siwalik Hills. Named in the honour of Maharana Pratap (1540–1597), the reservoir or the lake is a well-known wildlife sanctuary and one of the 49 international wetland sites declared in India by the Ramsar Convention. The reservoir covers an area of 24,529 hectares, and the wetlands portion is 15,662 hectares.

The economy of Madhya Pradesh refers to the economic growth with respect to the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. It grew 12% in GDP for the year of 2011–12, for which it received an award from the President Pranab Mukherjee in January 2013 for improving its tourism, medical and infrastructural growth. The economy of Madhya Pradesh is significantly agrarian which is reflecting rapid strides towards industrial and service sectors as well. The Ratapani Tiger Reserve, located in the Raisen district of Madhya Pradesh, in Vindhya Range in central India, is one of the finest teak forests in the state and is less than 50 kilometres (31 mi) away from the capital Bhopal.

Saman Bird Sanctuary is in Mainpuri district, in western Uttar Pradesh. It has been designated as a protected Ramsar site since 2019.

Ang Trapeang ThmaProtected Landscape is a 126.50 km2 (48.84 sq mi) protected area in northwestern Cambodia that was first established in 1999 and converted to a protected landscape in 2016. The reserve was set aside to protect the rare eastern sarus crane. Prior to the discovery of the crane at Trapeang Thma, there were thought to be fewer than 1,000 of the birds left alive in the world.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Jagdishpur Reservoir</span> Body of water

The Jagdishpur Reservoir is a reservoir in Jahadi Village Development Committee, Kapilvastu District, Nepal which was named after Er. Jagadish Jha who designed and supervised the construction of Banaganga dam. With a surface area of 225 ha (2.25 km2), it is the largest reservoir in the country and an important wetland site. It is situated at an altitude of 197 m (646 ft). The maximum water depth varies between 2 m (6.6 ft) in the dry season and 7 m (23 ft) in the monsoon season.

Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) concerns Narmada River, the river of Madhya Pradesh. With 87% of its catchment area lying in Madhya Pradesh, it becomes all the more important for the state to exploit this enormous water resource. It was with this motto in mind that the Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA) was formed by the government of MP on 9 August 1985. NVDA oversees all major development projects in the Narmada Basin. The body also ensures that proper rehabilitation is provided to the displaced, and the negative impacts on environment are minimized by taking appropriate measures.

Sirpur Lake is located on Indore-Dhar Road in Indore. The total area of the lake and its surrounding protected region is 800 acres and falls under the jurisdiction of the Indore Municipal Corporation. The wetland has been designated as a Ramsar site under the Ramsar Convention on 07-01-2022.

Gulawat Lotus valley is a valley near Gulawat village at Hatod tehsil, Indore district, Madhya Pradesh, India. It is the largest lotus valley in Asia, and is covered with thick forest surrounded by small ponds around which are covered with lotus and for which the source of water is the Yashwant Sagar Dam located nearby.
