The 42nd News and Documentary Emmy Awards were presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), to honor the best in American news and documentary programming in 2020. It was given annually from 1985 to 2019 to honor a young actor below the age of 25, who had delivered an outstanding performance in a role while working within the daytime drama industry.

The Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Morning Program had been awarded every year between 2007 and 2021. Beginning in 2020, the category name was changed from Outstanding Morning Program to Outstanding Morning Show. In December 2021, it was announced that this Daytime Emmy category will be retired and all morning shows will now be honored at the separate News & Documentary Emmy Awards.

The Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Legal/Courtroom Program is a category of the Daytime Emmy Awards dedicated to the court show genre. It was first introduced in 2008. Previously, court shows were grouped miscellaneously in the talk show category. In June 2021, The People's Court helmed by Marilyn Milian won its 4th Daytime Emmy Award, which gives it the most wins for the court show genre.

The 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards, presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS), "recognizes outstanding achievement in all fields of daytime television production and are presented to individuals and programs broadcast from 2:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. during the 2014 calendar year". The ceremony took place on April 26, 2015, at the Warner Bros. Studios in Burbank, California, 5:00 p.m. PST / 8:00 p.m. EST. The ceremony, televised in the United States by Pop was executive produced by Michael Levitt, Gary Tellalian and Mike Rothman. Talk show host, actress and producer Tyra Banks hosted the show for the first time.

The Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Pre-School Children's Animated Program had been awarded annually between 2013 and 2021. These shows were previously honored in the Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Children's Animated Program category. In November 2021, it was announced that all Daytime Emmy categories honoring children's programming would be retired in favor of a separate Children's & Family Emmy Awards ceremony that was held starting in 2022.

The Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Entertainment Talk Show Host was an award annually presented by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS). The award was given in honor of a talk show host that was in the entertainment nature. It was awarded from the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, held in 2015, to the 49th Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony, held in 2022. During this period, the generic Outstanding Talk Show Host category was split into two specific categories: this award and Outstanding Informative Talk Show Host. In 2023, the NATAS will merge the two specific categories back into one.

The 42nd Daytime Creative Arts Emmy Awards ceremony, which honors the crafts behind American daytime television programming, was held at the Hilton Universal City Hotel in Los Angeles on April 24, 2015. The event was presented in conjunction with the 42nd Daytime Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. The nominations were announced on March 31, 2015.

The Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Game Show was an award presented annually by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) and Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS).
