9 Ceti is a star in the equatorial constellation of Cetus. It has the variable star designation BE Ceti, while 9 Ceti is the Flamsteed designation. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.4, [4] which is below the limit that can be seen with the naked eye by a typical observer. [12] (According to the Bortle scale, it is possible for some observers to see it from dark rural skies.) Based upon parallax measurements, this star is 69.6  light years away from the Sun. [2]

This is a solar analog, which is defined as a "Population I dwarf with gross properties not very different from those of the Sun". [13] It is a G-type main sequence star with a stellar classification of G3 V, [4] which means it is generating energy through the fusion of hydrogen into helium at its core. The mass and radius of the star are similar to the Sun, [14] although the abundance of elements other than hydrogen and helium is about 50% greater. [7] It is much younger than the Sun, being an estimated 850 million years of age. [7] The effective temperature of the stellar atmosphere is around 5,807 K, [9] giving it the yellow-hued glow of a G-type star. [15]

In 1980, this was found to be a variable star with a periodicity of 7.655 days, and it was given variable star designation BE Ceti. This variation in luminosity was interpreted to be the result of rotational modulation of star spot activity in the photosphere, [10] and hence it is classified as a BY Draconis variable. [3] There is considerable variation in the strength of the surface activity—to the point where it has appeared inactive during some observation runs. The strength of the surface magnetic field was measured to be 450  G. [10] The spectrum of this star includes lines of titanium oxide and calcium hydride, which, for a star of this class, is further evidence of star spot activity. Star spots cover an estimated 3% of the surface. [16]

9 Ceti has been examined for evidence of a planetary companion or a debris disk, but as of 2015 none has been found. [17] The age of the star and its motion through space suggest that it is a member of the Hyades stellar kinematic group. [18]

There is a magnitude 12.57 optical companion at an angular separation of 214  arc seconds from 9 Ceti along a position angle of 294° (as of 1999). [19] The pair are not physically associated as they have different proper motions [17] and the fainter star has a much smaller parallax. [20]

Gliese 105 is a triple star system in the constellation of Cetus. It is located relatively near the Sun at a distance of 23.6 light-years. Despite this, even the brightest component is barely visible with the unaided eye (see Bortle scale). No planets have yet been detected around any of the stars in this system.

Gliese 412 is a pair of stars that share a common proper motion through space and are thought to form a binary star system. The pair have an angular separation of 31.4″ at a position angle of 126.1°. They are located 15.8 light-years distant from the Sun in the constellation Ursa Major. Both components are relatively dim red dwarf stars.

HD 36678 is single star in the northern constellation of Auriga. This star is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.83. It is located at a distance of approximately 840 light years from the Sun based on parallax.

HD 128333 or CH Boötis is an irregular variable star in the northern constellation of Boötes. With an apparent magnitude of 5.7, it is faintly visibly to the naked eye under good observing conditions.

4 Camelopardalis is a probable multiple star in the northern constellation of Camelopardalis, located 177 light years away from the Sun, based upon parallax. With a combined apparent visual magnitude of 5.29, it is visible to the naked eye as a faint, white-hued star. The pair have a relatively high proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at an angular rate of 0.158″ per year. The system's proper motion makes it a candidate for membership in the IC 2391 supercluster. They are moving away from the Earth with a heliocentric radial velocity of 22.5 km/s.

HD 30442 is a solitary star in the northern circumpolar constellation Camelopardalis. It is faintly visible to the naked eye with an apparent magnitude of 5.47 and is estimated to be 403 light years away from the Solar System. The object has a heliocentric radial velocity of −37 km/s, indicating that it is drifting closer.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">HD 190007</span> Star in the constellation Aquila

HD 190007, also known as Gliese 775, is a star with a close orbiting exoplanet in the constellation of Aquila. Parallax measurements by Gaia put the star at a distance of 41.5 light-years away from the Sun. It is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −30.3 km/s, and is predicted to come within 11.8 light-years in 375,000 years. The star has an absolute magnitude of 6.91, but at its present distance the apparent visual magnitude is 7.46, which is too faint to be viewed with the naked eye.

Chi Ceti , is the Bayer designation for a double star in the equatorial constellation of Cetus. They appear to be common proper motion companions, sharing a similar motion through space. The brighter component, HD 11171, is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.66, while the fainter companion, HD 11131, is magnitude 6.75. Both lie at roughly the same distance, with the brighter component lying at an estimated distance of 75.6 light years from the Sun based upon an annual parallax shift of 43.13 mass.

Phi2 Ceti, Latinized from φ2 Ceti), is a star located in the equatorial constellation of Cetus. φ2 Ceti is also known as 19 Cet, and HD 4813. Based upon parallax measurements, it is located about 51 light years away. It has an apparent visual magnitude of +5.19, making it bright enough to be seen with the naked eye. The star is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +8 km/s.

Omega<sup>1</sup> Cygni B-type subgiant star in the constellation Cygnus

Omega1 Cygni, Latinized from ω1 Cygni, is the Bayer designation for a solitary star in the northern constellation of Cygnus. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.94. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 2.59 mas, it is estimated to lie roughly 1,260 light years from the Sun. Relative to its neighbors, this star has a peculiar velocity of 25.7±2.2 km/s.

Pi Leonis, Latinised from π Leonis, is a single star in the zodiac constellation Leo. It is a red-hued star that is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.70. This object is located at a distance of some 410 light-years from the Sun based on parallax, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +22 km/s. Because the star lies near the ecliptic it is subject to occultations by the Moon.

Phi1 Lupi is a solitary star in the southern constellation of Lupus. It is visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 3.58. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 11.86 mas as seen from Earth, it is located around 275 light years from the Sun. The star is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −29 km/s. It has an absolute magnitude of −1.55.

90 Tauri is a star in the zodiac constellation of Taurus, located 144 light-years away from the Sun. It is visible to the naked eye as a faint, white-hued star with an apparent visual magnitude of 4.27. 90 Tauri is a member of the Hyades cluster and is listed as a double star.

Mu Muscae, Latinized from μ Muscae, is a solitary star in the southern constellation of Musca. It is visible to the naked eye as a faint, orange-hued star with an apparent visual magnitude of around 4.75. Based upon an annual parallax shift of 7.21 mas as seen from Earth, it is located about 450 light years from the Sun. The star is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +37 km/s.

V1073 Scorpii is a variable star in the constellation Scorpius. It has a non-Greek Bayer designation of k Scorpii. Parallax measurements yield a distance estimate of approximately 2,920 ly (896 pc) from the Sun, and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +7 km/s. 77 Ceti is a single, orange-hued star located 489 light years away in the equatorial constellation of Cetus. It is faintly visible to the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 5.7. This is an evolved giant star with a stellar classification of K2 III. It is radiating 187 times the Sun's luminosity from its photosphere at an effective temperature of 4,206 K.
