Launch

Cartoonito launched in Spain as a 24-hour channel on 1 September 2011, replacing the Spanish version of Boomerang, as part of Turner Broadcasting System EMEA plans to expand the Cartoonito brand across Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Closure

Turner Broadcasting System Europe announced on 14 June 2013, that Cartoonito and Cartoon Network would close in Spain on 30 June 2013, due to declining ratings and the pay TV crisis in Spain, which was a result of complications from the 2008 financial crisis. [2]

Shortly before midnight on 1 July 2013, Cartoonito closed in Spain with its last programme being an episode of the CGI version of Bananas in Pajamas . The channel than displayed a filler, and after a few minutes, each operator that distributed the signal replaced it with an information screen informing customers that the channel had shut down in Spain.
