David James Taylor [1] (born November 16, 1969) [2] is an American politician and business owner who is the U.S. representative for Ohio's 2nd congressional district .

Early life and career

Taylor graduated from Amelia High School in Batavia, Ohio. He then graduated from Miami University and the University of Dayton School of Law. [3] [4] At Miami, Taylor was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity. [5] He worked as a part-time assistant prosecutor for Clermont County before taking over as the owner of his family's concrete business, Sardinia Ready Mix, in Brown County. [6] [7]

Following incumbent representative Brad Wenstrup's announcement that he would not seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives for Ohio's 2nd congressional district in the 2024 United States House of Representatives elections, Taylor announced his candidacy. [8] He won the Republican Party nomination [9] and defeated Democratic nominee Samantha Meadows in the November general election. [10]

Personal life

Taylor has been married to his wife, Charity, for 27 years. They currently reside in Clermont County with their three daughters. [11]

On August 2, 2005, elections were held in Ohio's 2nd congressional district to choose a United States representative to replace Rob Portman, who had resigned his seat in April to become United States Trade Representative. Hackett, a Democrat, narrowly lost to Republican Jean Schmidt, a former member of the Ohio House of Representatives, providing the best showing in the usually solidly Republican district by any Democrat since the 1974 election. Hackett's campaign attracted national attention and substantial expenditures by both parties. It was viewed by some observers as the first round of the 2006 elections. In October 2005, Hackett said he would seek the Democratic nomination in 2006 to challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Mike DeWine; however, he dropped out of the race on February 14, 2006, and said that he would return to his law practice.

Incumbent Jean Schmidt, who won the seat in a special election in 2005, ran for reelection. She faced Democrat Victoria Wells Wulsin, a doctor from Indian Hill, in the general election. Results showed that Schmidt won reelection by 1.26%, and Wulsin conceded the race.

On November 2, 2021, with 65.8% of the vote, he was elected as mayor making him the first Asian American to be elected as the mayor of Cincinnati. He was previously a candidate for Ohio's 1st congressional district in 2018.
