Denim Air ACMI B.V. was [1] a Dutch charter airline based in Mijdrecht. [2] It provided ACMI wet lease services to other airlines. Its main base was Amsterdam Airport Schiphol. [3] It was wholly owned by Sky Greenland and had 50 employees in January 2016. [3] Denim operated full charters and under wetlease (ACMI) contracts on behalf of other airlines as well as governments and corporations. Its operations licence was revoked on 24 November 2016. [1]

History

This airline was established in 1996 and started operations on 26 April 1996.

Denim Air mainly targeted African, Asian and other willing markets, operating for United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees in Sudan and Central Africa, for the Norwegian Army in Afghanistan, for Veba Oil in Libya. The airline also operated aircraft for airlines, mainly African airline, Arik Air and Spanish airline, Air Nostrum, they also operated one aircraft for African airline, Air Affaires Gabon.

On 18 February 2010, Denim Air ceased operations after all wet-lease contracts had ended within weeks and Dutch legal company De Vos & Partners was appointed as curator of wet-lease specialist Denim Air after it was declared bankrupt. A successful restart of the company was initiated as Denim Air ACMI or Denim in short.

In April 2015, Denim established FlyDenim as a new brand and corporate design for their charter operations. [4] During the summer of 2015, the airline operated several new charter flights - for example from Manchester to Murcia and Innsbruck.

From December 2015 to February 2016, Denim operated domestic flights in Italy thanks to an agreement with the Italian tour operator Air Sud. [5] flights from Reggio Calabria to Venice and Bergamo were operated with Fokker 100 and Fokker 50 of Denim's fleet. [6] As of March 2016, all Air Sud's flights are suspended. [7]

On 24 November 2016, the Dutch aviation authorities revoked Denim Air's operational license which subsequently led to the grounding of all of its flights. [1] Denim Air operated its sole aircraft on behalf of People's Viennaline at this time and has been immediately replaced by Helvetic Airways after its grounding. [8]

Air France sold CityJet to Intro Aviation in May 2014; in March 2016 the airline was bought by founder Pat Byrne and other investors. Since 2017, CityJet had moved away from scheduled flights and has instead focused on wet leasing and charter flights. As of August 2020, the airline operates wet-lease services on behalf of Scandinavian Airlines.

Omni Air International, LLC. is a United States charter airline headquartered in Hangar 19 on the grounds of Tulsa International Airport in Tulsa, Oklahoma, United States. It specializes in passenger charter flights, and Aircraft Crew Maintenance Insurance (ACMI) wet leasing. Omni is an FAA Part 121 certificated airline with IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA) registration.

VLM Airlines was a Belgian airline offering scheduled, charter and ACMI services. It was headquartered at Antwerp International Airport in Deurne. It ceased operations on 31 August 2018. It is not to be confused with its Belgian sister airline VLM Airlines Brussels, which operated leisure charters and ceased operations in December 2018. A new airline known as Air Antwerp which was owned by CityJet (75%) and KLM (25%) launched operations on 9 September 2019 and consisted of ex-employees and fleet of VLM Airlines until its closure in 2021.

Phuket Air was an airline based in Bangkok, Thailand. The airline specialised in leasing its fleet of Boeing 747 and 737 aircraft on an ACMI as well as wet lease basis to airlines worldwide needing extra passenger capacity. Other services provided included international charter services, ad hoc wet leasing services, religious pilgrimage charters (Hajj/Umrah) and dry lease services. Saudi Arabian Airlines was a major long term client of Phuket Air. In the past, the airline provided scheduled domestic and international air services. Its main base was at Suvarnabhumi Airport, Bangkok, with a hub at Phuket International Airport, Phuket. The airline was an international scheduled carrier before it shifted its focus to the ACMI/wet lease market.

Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH, trading as Germania, was a privately owned German airline with its headquarters in Berlin. It began by focusing on charter operations, then moved towards becoming a scheduled carrier, although some charter flights were still flown under the brand. The change in strategy led to growth over its last few years, and Germania operated to destinations in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East from several German bases. It carried 2.5 million passengers in 2009 and had around 850 employees as of summer 2014. It declared bankruptcy on 4 February 2019 and ceased operations on 5 February 2019.

SmartLynx Airlines Limited, previously LatCharter, is a Latvia-based ACMI, charter and cargo airline based in Mārupe, operating flights on wet lease out (ACMI), holiday charter flights, ad-hoc passenger charter and cargo flights across Europe, Africa, Asia, Australia, Canada and the United States.
