Central University of Punjab Central University in Punjab, India

Central University of Punjab is a Central University located in Ghudda village of Bathinda, Punjab, India. It has been established through an Act of Parliament: "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. The territorial jurisdiction of Central University of Punjab is whole of the State of Punjab. Central University of Punjab has been ranked as number one amongst newly established central universities in India consistently since 2012 as per university rankings of Researchgate and Scopus.

Uranium poisoning in Punjab first made news in March 2009, when a South African Board Certified Candidate Clinical Metal Toxicologist, Carin Smit, visiting Faridkot city in Punjab, India, instrumental in having hair and urine samples taken (2008/09) of 149/53 children respectively, who were affected with birth abnormalities including physical deformities, neurological and mental disorders. These samples were shipped to Microtrace Mineral Lab, Germany.

Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant

The Guru Nanak Dev Thermal Plant at Bathinda was one of the three thermal power stations in Punjab. It was a medium-sized power station with four units that were begun to be built in early 1970s and completed in 1982. All total generate up to 460 MW of power that meets the mammoth irrigation needs of lower Punjab. Having generated electricity for 100 years to meet the power demand of punjab, the thermal shut down forever on September 27, 2017.

The expressway will reduce the distance and time travel between Amritsar and Jamnagar from earlier 1,430 km to 1,316 km and the time travel from 26 hours to only 13 hours. It is a part of the Bharatmala and Amritsar–Jamnagar Economic Corridor (EC-3). It will pass through four states of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Gujarat.
