The South Western Railway (SWR) is one of the 19 railway zones in India, headquartered at Hubballi in Karnataka State. SWR was created from carving out the routes from Southern Railways, South Central Railways and Central Railways in 2003.

Bengaluru Suburban Railway is an under construction suburban rail network for the city of Bengaluru. A Suburban Rail system for the city was first proposed in 1983. Since then, several different route proposals were made but no Suburban Rail project took shape. It was finally approved in the 2019 Railway Budget. On 1 February 2020, finance minister, Nirmala Sitharaman mentioned in her budget that the project would be implemented at cost of Rs 18,600 crores. The central government would provide 20% of the equity and facilitate external assistance up to 60 percent of the project cost. It will be first of its kind and unique in India as it will have metro like facilities and rolling stock. It has slowest design speed among all the new suburban rail projects currently being implemented in India as Nagpur broad-gauge Metro and National Capital Region Transport Corporation are building rail tracks for design speed of 200 km/h with operating speed of 160 km/h.
Mysore Junction railway station, re-christened as Mysuru Junction railway station is a railway station on Mysore–Bangalore railway line serving the city of Mysore, Karnataka, India. Previously Mysore was connected to Bangalore by a single-line metre-gauge track. It was later converted into non-electrified broad-gauge line. It has now been converted to a double-line, electrified route.
Mangaluru Central railway station, formerly Mangalore Central railway station is the main railway terminus in the city of Mangalore. It is one of the major railway stations in Karnataka state and it is the biggest terminal station under Palakkad railway division. There is also another railway station named Mangalore Junction railway station, previously known as Kankanady railway station. The Mangalore region provides the highest freight revenue to the Palakkad division, which sums up to 90 percent of the total revenue which the Palakkad division generates. Mangalore Central comes under the Southern Railway and also provides connectivity for Konkan Railway and South Western Railway of the Indian Railways. It is one of the 5 central railway stations of India.
Siddaganga Intercity Express, formerly Intercity Excpress is a daily express train that runs between Dharwad and Bengaluru in Karnataka, India and it replaced Bangalore City - Hubli (Hubballi) Shatabdi Express. and until 2009, this train ran from Hubballi to Bengaluru. It was extended to Dharwad on 8 December 2009. It takes 8 hours 50 minutes to cover 490 kilometres (300 mi). It has 17 stops and 65 intermediate Stations. It is numbered as 12725/12726. The train belongs to Mysuru Division of South Western Railway.
National Highway 75 is one of major National Highway in India. passing through states of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu. This national highway was earlier known as National Highway 48 (NH-48) before rationalisation of highway numbers in 2010. The highway connects the port city of Mangaluru (Mangalore) in the west to the city of Vellore in the east. National highway 75 is the main road for travellers from Mangaluru going to Bengaluru and Hassan. NH-75 traverses all three geographical regions of Karnataka state namely Karavali, Malenadu and Bayaluseeme.
The Bangalore–Arsikere–Hubli line is a major railway line in the Indian state of Karnataka connecting state capital Bangalore with city of Hubli in north-central Karnataka. It traverses across Karnataka and links several cities of Karnataka, including Tumakuru, Kadur, Davanagere, Haveri and Hubballi. Currently, 29 pairs of trains operate in this route, out of which 8 are daily services. Apart from this, this route also links Karnataka with other states, such as Goa, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Rajasthan. This route is also a major feeder line for iron ore, coal and steel hauling freight trains originating from Ballari district towards the Mangaluru port.

The Coimbatore–Chamrajnagar line is a proposed railway line from Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu to Chamrajnagar in Karnataka. It is a part of the Southern Railway zone of the Indian Railways. Upon construction, this line would connect Western Tamil Nadu with Karnataka. The line would give direct rail connectivity between Coimbatore and Mysore and would reduce the travel distance from Coimbatore to Mysore and Bangalore. It would also connect Tamil Nadu with the Southern districts of Karnataka.
