Island Airways is a small passenger airline based in Charlevoix, Michigan. It provides services to Welke Airport and Charlevoix Municipal Airport. [1]

History

The airline began in 1945 as McPhillips Flying Service. In 1975 Welke Aviation was started in competition with McPhillips. The two companies merged in 1983 and Paul Welke bought out his partners in 1989. [2] In 2001 Welke was instrumental in the location and rescue of a family that had been on a charter flight that crashed on approach to Beaver Island. [3] In 2013, the Michigan Aeronautics Commission gave Welke an award in recognition of Island Air's long history of service. [4]

PenAir U.S.-based regional airline

Peninsula Airways, operating as PenAir, was a U.S.-based regional airline headquartered in Anchorage, Alaska. It was Alaska's second-largest commuter airline operating scheduled passenger service, as well as charter and medevac services throughout the state. Its main base was Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport. PenAir had a code sharing agreement in place with Alaska Airlines with its flights operated in the state of Alaska.

Orca Airways

Orca Airways was a scheduled and charter airline based in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The airline provided scheduled commercial service, cargo and charter services, and aircraft management in Canada and the western United States. Orca operated a fleet of that includes 14 Piper PA-31-350 Chieftains, 1 Fairchild SA227s and 2 Beechcraft Model 100 King Air. The company operated from the south terminal at Vancouver International Airport.
