Vertex Aerospace Flight International Aviation is an American airline based in Newport News, Virginia. It is a Part 135 carrier operating contact charters for US government agencies. Flight International has provided the DoD with realistic threat simulation, AIC training, tracking exercises, and targets for surface and aerial gunnery for more than 35 years. Its main base is Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport with a detachment based at North Island Naval Air Station, CA. [1]
The airline is wholly owned by Vertex Aerospace. In 1976, Flight International was founded as an airline training school in Atlanta, GA. The headquarters was moved to Newport News, VA and provided Commercial Air Service programs for the DoD starting in 1979. Flight International is the original company providing Contracted Air Services to the DoD. In 2002, the company was acquired by Raytheon Aerospace which was renamed Vertex Aerospace. In 2003, Vertex Aerospace was acquired by L-3 Communications and the name changed from Flight International Aviation to L-3 Flight International Aviation. In 2017, L-3 Communications became L3 Technologies and then in 2018, L3 sold Vertex Aerospace along with Flight International to American Industrial Partners. The current name of the airline is Flight International Aviation, LLC. [1]

Smith Reynolds Airport is a public airport 3 miles (5 km) northeast of Winston-Salem in Forsyth County, North Carolina. The airport has two runways, and is used for general aviation and flight training. There are currently no scheduled passenger airline flights. Smith Reynolds was once home to the Winston-Salem air show, usually held in September, which drew about 20,000 spectators. There has not been an airshow since 2015. The airport has multiple flight schools and maintenance facilities. Smith Reynolds also has an operational control tower that operates from 6:00 AM to 9:30 PM year-round. INT covers 702 acres of land.

Butler International was a United States company in the airplane service, trucking, and technical-management industries. Founded as the Chicago, Illinois–based Butler Aviation in 1947, the company spread across the United States and acquired various other aviation companies, becoming by 1970 the country's largest aviation services company. In 1974, reflecting a diversity of business interests and services in Europe, it was renamed to Butler International. Once a "giant of the general aviation industry", the aviation division was sold in 1992 and merged in 1998 into Signature Flight Support, a company run by the British company Signature Aviation. The rest of the company was sold and ultimately declared bankruptcy in 2009, acquired by Butler America, later Butler Aerospace & Defense, a subsidiary of Select Staffing. This successor company, now owned by Indian conglomerate HCL Technologies, works almost entirely as a technical and engineering support provider for Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation.
