Demographics

The majority of the people are farmers. Villagers are educated and the literacy rate is significantly high. Many people works in government jobs, such as teachers, soldiers, police officers etc.

It was eventually led by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, and its success gave rise to Patel becoming one of the main leaders of the independence movement.

Farmer suicides in India refers to the national catastrophe of farmers committing suicide since the 1970s, due to their inability to repay loans mostly taken from private landlords and banks. NCRB data shows that the incidence of farmer suicides has remained high in the 6 years between 2014 and 2020. Fifty-six hundred farmers committed suicide in 2014, and 5,500 farmers committed suicide in 2020. If the agricultural labourers are added to the 2020 number, the number of suicides rises to over 10,600.

Basain is a 1957 Nepali novel written by Lil Bahadur Chettri. It was published by Sajha Prakashan and is included in the curriculum of Tribhuvan University. Chettri, an Assamese Nepali writer wrote this book incorporating the experience of different Nepalese immigrants in India. The book depicts life of a poor farmer and his family in a rural village in hilly Nepal and the circumstances under which they are forced to emigrate away from their village.
