The television industry in India is very diverse and produces thousands of programmes in many Indian languages. Nearly 87% Indian households own a television. As of 2016, the country had over 900 channels of which 184 were pay channels. National channels operate in Hindi and English, in addition to channels in several other languages including Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Odia, Punjabi, Assamese, Gujarati, Urdu, Bhojpuri, Kashmiri, Konkani and Haryanvi, among others. The Hindi, Telugu and Tamil language television industries are by far the largest television industries in India.
DD Free Dish is an Indian free-to-air satellite television provider owned and operated by Public Service Broadcaster Prasar Bharati. It was launched in December, 2004. In March 2022, It has a reach of over 43 million households which is more than 25% of the total TV households in the country. DD Free Dish earns by selling slots to private broadcasters through e-auction.

The channel was launched on 1 September 2015 and replaced TV24 News, after the news channel was removed due to non-renewal of contract. Zee Ganga was a Bhojpuri general entertainment channel. It was launched by Reliance Broadcast Network Limited (RBNL) as Big Ganga in 2013 but later acquired by ZEEL and they rebranded it as Zee Ganga in 2021. It was the only Bhojpuri channel on DD Free Dish which delivers original content for their viewers.
Filamchi Bhojpuri is a 24x7 linear broadcast channel specializing in Bhojpuri cinema. Currently, the channel is available on DD Free Dish at LCN 46 and Airtel Digital TV and also on Sun Direct LCN 716. This channel can be watched without any subscription on DD Free Dish.
Surya Bhojpuri is a Bhojpuri language entertainment channel that was owned by Surya Sagar Entertainment Pvt Ltd.
