The Michigan Attorney General election of 2018 took place on November 6, 2018, alongside elections to be Michigan's governor, Class I United States Senator, Secretary of State, as well elections for Michigan's 14 seats in the United States House of Representatives, all 38 seats in the Michigan Senate and all 110 seats in the Michigan House of Representatives; to elect the Secretary of State of Michigan. Incumbent Republican Attorney General Bill Schuette was prohibited from seeking a third term due to term limits. The Michigan GOP was unsuccessful in looking to win its 5th straight Attorney General election. Along with the offices of Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State, the nominees for Attorney General will be chosen by party delegates at their respective party conventions.

Nessel defeated Leonard by 110,453 votes, becoming the first Democratic attorney general of Michigan since 2003.

Tom Leonard is a former member of the Michigan House of Representatives he served as Speaker of the House from 2017-2019. Elected in 2012 to succeed term-limited Paul Opsommer, Leonard represents the residents of Clinton and Gratiot County. In November 2016, Leonard was selected by the House Republican Caucus to serve as Speaker of the Michigan House of Representatives, succeeding term-limited Speaker Kevin Cotter. In January 2017, Leonard was formally elected Speaker of the House by a unanimous bipartisan vote of the entire Michigan House of Representatives.

There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. She was elected on November 2, 2010 and took office on January 1, 2011 for an eight-year term that ended on January 1, 2019. On August 17, 2015, she announced her resignation from the Supreme Court effective October 1, 2015, to return to private practice at Bodman PLC in Detroit.

Patrick A. Miles Jr. is a former U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan based in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He was nominated by President Obama on March 29, 2012 and confirmed by the U.S. Senate on June 29, 2012. Miles is the first person of color to hold the position of U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Michigan, which covers 49 Michigan counties including the state's entire Upper Peninsula.
