Patrick Abba Moro (born 3 July 1956) is a Nigerian educational administrator,politician and former honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry Of Interior. [2] He is currently the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman Governing Council of the University of Agriculture,Makurdi. [3] In 2019,he was elected into the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria [4] [5] replacing David Mark,a two-term senate president (6th and 7th Assembly) and one of the longest serving Senators in Nigeria. Moro was born on 3 July 1956,in Okpokwu Local Government Area of Benue State,Nigeria. [8] He had his primary education at LGEA special Primary School,Odessassa between 1963 and 1969. [9] He later attended Emmanuel Secondary School at Ugbokolo from 1969 to 1974 before he proceeded to Federal Government College,Kano where he obtained a Higher School Certificate (HSC) in 1975. [10] He proceeded to the University of Lagos where he obtained a Bachelor of science (B. sc) degree in Political Science and Master of science (M. sc) degree in Public Administration in 1980 and 1983 respectively. Moro began his academic career at Benue State Polytechnic as a lecturer where he served as Head of the Department of General Studies for one year (1991-1992) and Head of the department of Public Administration for four years (1992-1996) [12] and later as Dean of Studies,School of Business and Administration Studies. [13] He served in that capacity for two years (1994-1996). [14] He was later elected as chairman of the Benue State Polytechnic chapter of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria. [15] He served in that capacity for four years (1980 - 1984) before he was elected as the National President of Polytechnic Senior Staff of Nigeria in 1986. [16]
Moro began his political career as elected Chairman of Okpokwu Local Government Council in 1998. [17] He was the People's Democratic Party candidate for the April 2007 Benue state governorship election but lost to the opposition party and on July 2011,he was appointed as honorable Minister of the Federal Ministry Of Interior by Goodluck Ebele Jonathan,the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. [18] [19] Moro was sued to court for fraud over a botched recruitment drive,which resulted in stampedes that left 20 people dead in 2014 and is currently facing trials. [2] Moro was charged with fraud in relation to the stampede. [20] Moro has pleaded not guilty to his role in an alleged $2.5m (£1.8m) fraud,involving missing application fees. [21] He was also charged to court by EFCC,over fatal N677m Immigration recruitment scam in 2014. [22] Moro of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has emerged winner of the Benue South senatorial election. Moro scored 85,162 votes to beat his main challenger,Steven Lawani of the All Progressives Congress (APC) who polled 47,972.

The territory was initially known as Munshi Province until 1918 when the name of its dominant geographical feature,the 'Benue River' was adopted.

David Alechenu Bonaventure Mark,GCON is a retired Nigerian Army Brigadier General and politician. He was President of the Senate of Nigeria from 2007 to 2015 and was the Senator for Benue South Senatorial District Benue State. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party (PDP). Prior to his senatorial career,Mark was the military Governor of Niger State from 1984 to 1986 and the Minister of Communication.

The 2014 Nigeria Immigration Recruitment Tragedy occurred on Saturday March 15,2014,when 6.5 million people in all 37 states of Nigeria stormed various recruitment centers in the country for the 4000 vacant positions in the Nigeria Immigration Service. At least 16 job seekers were confirmed dead,and several scores of people were injured. The major causes of death was due to overcrowding,stampede,exhaustion,and impatience of the applicants.

Benue North-East senatorial District known as zone A within Benue State covers seven local government areas which include Katsina-Ala,Logo,Ukum,Konshisha,Vandeikya,Kwande and Ushhongo. There 84 electoral wards and 1,389 polling units as of 2019 election. The headquarter of Benue North-East Senatorial District is Katsina-ALa. The current representative is Senator Gabriel Suswam.
Benue South Senatorial District covers Ado,Agatu,Apa,Obi,Ogbadibo,Ohimini,Oju,Okpokwu,Otukpo and Gboko. Nigeria’s longest serving senator,David Mark who was president of the 6th and 7th Assembly is from here. David Mark was first elected in 1999 and left at the end of his 5th term in the Senate in 2019. The current representative of Benue South is Abba Moro of the People's Democratic Party,PDP.
The 2015 Benue State gubernatorial election was the 8th gubernatorial election of Benue State. Held on April 11,2015,the All Progressives Congress nominee Samuel Ortom won the election,defeating Terhemen Tarzoor of the People's Democratic Party.
The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Benue State was held on February 23,2019,to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Benue State. Patrick Abba Moro representing Benue South,Gabriel Suswam representing Benue North-East and Emmanuel Yisa Orker-Jev representing Benue North-West all won on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party.
