The Rison Texaco Service Station is a historic automobile service station at 216 Main Street (corner of Third Street) in Rison, Arkansas. It is a distinctive Art Deco structure built c. 1926. Since 1990 it has housed a timber company. [2]

The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002. [1]

Rison is a city in and the county seat of Cleveland County, Arkansas, United States. Its population was 1,344 at the 2010 U.S. census. It is included in the Pine Bluff, Arkansas Metropolitan Statistical Area. Rison is a bedroom community for people who work in Pine Bluff. The largest employers are the city and county governments, the Cleveland County School District, the Cleveland County Nursing Home. Ambler's Texaco Gas Station, also known as Becker's Marathon Gas Station, is a historic filling station located at the intersection of Old U.S. Route 66 and Illinois Route 17 in the village of Dwight, Illinois, United States. The station has been identified as the longest operating gas station along Route 66; it dispensed fuel for 66 continuous years until 1999. The station is a good example of a domestic style gas station and derives its most common names from ownership stints by two different men. North of the station is an extant outbuilding that once operated as a commercial icehouse. Ambler's was the subject of major restoration work from 2005–2007, and reopened as a Route 66 visitor's center in May 2007. It was added to the U.S. National Register of Historic Places in 2001.

Arkansas Highway 133

Arkansas Highway 133 is a designation for three state highways in South Arkansas. One route of 24.20 miles (38.95 km) runs from Louisiana Highway 142 north through Crossett to Highway 8 near Fountain Hill. A second segment runs from Highway 160 north to US Route 425 (US 425) at Lacey. A third segment begins in Rison at Highway 35 and runs north to Highway 54 south of Pine Bluff.

Cleveland County Courthouse (Arkansas) United States historic place

The Cleveland County Courthouse in Rison, Arkansas, was built in 1911. Located at Main and Magnolia Streets, it is a two-story brick structure measuring 100 feet (30 m) by 70 feet (21 m), and topped by a hipped tile roof. A square central tower rises 20 feet (6.1 m) above the roof, and includes a four-faced clock, with louvered arches below the clock, and an arched cornice above, topped by an octagonal cupola.

Mount Olivet Methodist Church United States historic place

The Mount Olivet Methodist Church is a historic church building located on the Cleveland County, Arkansas fairgrounds near Rison, Arkansas. It is a simple rectangular structure built c. 1875, with twin entrances on one of the gable ends. The long sides of the church have four windows, while the rear wall has two, and the exterior has minimal decoration. The interior is a single chamber, again with minimal styling. The church was rescued from demolition in 1975 by the Cleveland County Historical Society, which moved it to the fairgrounds to be part of a display recreating a 19th-century Arkansas village.

The Cleveland County Clerk's Building is a modest one-story wood-frame structure now located on the Cleveland County fairgrounds in Rison, Arkansas. Measuring 20 feet (6.1 m) wide and 32 feet (9.8 m) long, it was built in 1902 at a location near the present site of the county courthouse. It served as the office of the county clerk until about 1911, when the courthouse was completed. It was then rented to the local sheriff for personal use, and from 1921 to 1940 housed an office of the local agricultural extension service.

The Rison Cities Service Station is a historic automobile service station at Main and Magnolia Streets in Rison, Arkansas. It is a distinctive modest brick English Revival structure built in 1938. It has a cross-gable roof, in which there is a small oculus in each of the gables. The front facade has large plate glass windows flanking a central doorway. It was built and operated by the Arkansas Fuel and Oil Company, which operated it from 1938 to 1969 as the Cities Service Station. Since then it has been seen various commercial uses.

The Phoenix Hotel building at 180 Main Street is the most prominent and distinctive building in downtown Rison, Arkansas. It is a two-story brick building that was built in 1913 by Dr. T. H. Ackerman to replace a previous hotel building on the site. The most distinctive feature of its facade is a basket-handled arch that frames the recessed porch on the second floor. The roof line is more elaborate than that of other downtown buildings, with corbels and brick quoins decorating the roof edge. The hotel went through a modest number of owners before closing its doors in the 1960s.

Harveys Grocery and Texaco Station United States historic place

Harvey's Grocery and Texaco Station is a historic retail establishment at 3241 Arkansas Highway 24, between Camden and Chidester, Arkansas. The single-story concrete block building was built in 1940 by Henry Harvey, replacing a log structure that had previously housed his retail establishment. The building is one of the best-preserved examples of 1940s vernacular general stores and gas stations in the Camden area. The style of the building is, despite its modern construction materials, reminiscent of 19th century retail buildings, with a small windows placed high on the sides, and a full-width front porch. The Harveys pumped gas until 1979, after which the tanks were removed. Harvey's was also a locally notable stop for politicians on the stump in Arkansas: those who are known to have stopped here were Bill Clinton, David Pryor, and Jay Dickey.

Murfreesboro Cities Service Station United States historic place

The Murfreesboro Cities Service Station is a historic automotive service station on Arkansas Highway 26, facing the northeast side of the town square in Murfreesboro, Arkansas. It is a simple single-story brick building with a cross-gable roof and modest English Revival styling. It was built in 1939 by A. P. Terrell, a local builder, using bricks from a building that had previously stood on the site. It was operated as a Cities Service gas station into the 1980s, and was purchased by the Murfreesboro Community Foundation in 1989. The building plan for this structure is similar to that of other surviving Cities Service stations, including a station in Rison and another in Clinton.

Texaco Station No. 1 United States historic place

The Texaco Station No. 1 is a historic automotive service station at 110 East Main Street in Paragould, Arkansas. Built in 1925, it is a Mission-style brick building with a canopy extending to cover the service area. It is one of only two surviving early gas stations in the city, and was used as a service station until about 1970, going through a number of ownership and fuel supplier changes. In 1985 it was converted into the Hamburger Station, a restaurant.
