The city of Mangalore is proclaimed as the gateway to Karnataka [1] and lies nestled between the blue waters of the Arabian Sea and the green, towering hills of the Western Ghats. The 184 square km city is spread out over the backwaters of the two rivers, Netravati and Gurpura.

Mangaladevi temple: The temple is dedicated to Hindu god Shakti in the form of Mangaladevi. The city is named after the presiding deity, Mangaladevi. As per another legend, the temple is believed to have been built by Parashurama, one of the ten avatars of Hindu god Vishnu and later expanded by Kundavarman.
A short distance from the city is various tourist places likes of Karkala, Kundapur, Kasaragod and the temple town Udupi. The neighbouring town of Udupi, is an important Teerthasthal (pilgrimage place) with its historical Krishna Temple is the cultural center of Karnataka. [19] Mangalore shares its border with Kerala in the south. A distance of 50 km away from Mangalore is a town in Kerala, Kasaragod which still shares cultural links with Mangalore and is often named as land of Lords and Forts.
Mangalore, officially known as Mangaluru, is a major industrial port city in the Indian state of Karnataka and on the west coast of India. It is located between the Laccadive Sea and the Western Ghats about 352 km (219 mi) west of Bangalore, the state capital, 14 km north of Karnataka–Kerala border and 297 km south of Goa. Mangalore is the state's only city to have all four modes of transport—air, road, rail and sea. The population of the urban agglomeration was 619,664 according to the 2011 national census of India. It is known for being one of the locations of the Indian strategic petroleum reserves.
Dakshina Kannada district is located in the state of Karnataka in India, with its headquarters in the coastal city of Mangalore. Kadri Park is a park located in Kadri Gudde. It is the largest park in Mangalore. This park contains a musical fountain and has hosted the Karavali Utsav. The park is famous for flower shows in Mangalore.
Talapady is a village near Mangaluru city in Ullal taluk of Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka state in India. Talapady borders the states of Karnataka and Kerala. National Highway 66 passes through Talapady which is 14 km (9 mi) south of Mangalore city. The Karnataka-Kerala checkpost border is situated at Talapady. Another village Thalapady, Kasargod which is situated near Talapady in Manjeswar crossing Kerala border.
Panambur is one of the localities in Mangalore famous as a tourist spot. It is also a major industrial area and the site of Karnataka's main port, New Mangalore Port. Venur or Venoor is a small village on the banks of the Phalguni river in Belthangady Taluk, Dakshina Kannada of Karnataka, India. It was once the seat of Jainism and the capital of the Ajila Dynasty. It is on the Dharmasthala-Moodabidri-Karkala route on the coastal religious circuit in the Karnataka State of India.
Vamanjoor is a residential locality which falls within the city corporation of Mangalore in Karnataka, India. It is en route to Moodabidri and Karkala by National Highway 169.
Thokottu is a commercial junction to the south of Mangalore city on National Highway 66 and the gateway to Mangalore city from the South (Kerala). It is one of the major and busiest junctions of Mangalore city wherein one road goes towards east to Deralakatte and Konaje, educational hubs with several premium educational institutions and few information technology companies, the other road towards west goes to Ullal. This junction connects Mangalore city, second major city of Karnataka with Talapady and Kerala. A flyover is constructed in the junction to reduce the congestion for the travellers travelling between Mangalore city and Kerala. The creation of educational institutions in Deralakatte and Konaje has led to the construction of many commercial complexes in the area.

Ullal Beach is situated on the southwestern seaboard of the Indian sub-continent, adjacent to Ullal town, 10 km south of the city of Mangalore, Karnataka, India. NITK Beach also known as Surathkal beach is on the Arabian Sea coast at Surathkal, 16 km (9.9 mi) north of the centre of Mangalore city, in the Dakshina Kannada district of Karnataka, India. It is a private beach that was later named after the nearby NITK.
Tagore Park is a recreation park situated in Mangalore in the state of Karnataka in India. It contains a lighthouse, with a height of 33 feet built in the year 1900. The lighthouse carries an acetylene light. It is located adjacent to Light house hill (LHH) road, one of the busiest roads in the city.
