Jones/Bronzeville, [3] also known as 35th Street, is a station on Metra's Rock Island District line. It is located in the Bronzeville neighborhood on the South Side of Chicago, Illinois. It was named in honor of Lovana Jones who was an Illinois State Representative in the Bronzeville neighborhood.
Metra began construction on the new station in 2009 and it opened on April 3, 2011, [1] after originally being scheduled to open in late 2010. [4] It is located east of Guaranteed Rate Field, home of the Chicago White Sox, and also serves the nearby Illinois Institute of Technology, Chicago Police Headquarters, and De La Salle Institute. [5]
Currently, it is the third newest station on the Metra system after Peterson/Ridge station which opened on May 20, 2024 and Romeoville station which opened on February 5, 2018.
The station is also located roughly 200 feet (61 m) from CTA's Sox–35th station on the Red Line, in the median of the Dan Ryan Expressway. It is also located within walking distance of the CTA's 35th–Bronzeville–IIT station on the Green Line.
It is about 3.1 miles (5.0 km) from LaSalle Street Station, the northern terminus of the Rock Island District, [6] and consists of two side platforms with heated shelters that serve two tracks. [7] As of 2018, 35th Street is the 158th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 245 weekday boardings. [2]
As of 2022, 35th Street is served by 74 trains (37 in each direction) on weekdays, by all 33 trains (16 inbound, 17 outbound) on Saturdays, and by all 28 trains (14 in each direction) on Sundays and holidays.
The Rock Island District (RI) is a Metra commuter rail line from Chicago, Illinois, southwest to Joliet. Metra does not refer to its lines by color, but the timetable accents for the Rock Island District line are "Rocket Red" in honor of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad's Rocket passenger trains.
LaSalle Street Station is a commuter rail terminal at 414 South LaSalle Street in downtown Chicago. First used as a rail terminal in 1852, it was a major intercity rail terminal for the New York Central Railroad until 1968, and for the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad until 1978, but now serves only Metra's Rock Island District. Quincy is a rapid transit station on the Chicago "L" system. It is located between the Washington/Wells and LaSalle/Van Buren stations on the Loop. The station is located above the intersection of Quincy Street and Wells Street in downtown Chicago, Illinois. Having opened in 1897, it is one of the oldest surviving stations on the 'L' system.
Lovana S. 'Lou' Jones served as an Illinois State Representative from 1987 until her death in 2006. She was known for speaking up for abused and neglected children. Born in Mansfield, Ohio, Jones went to Ohio State University. Jones was an employee of the City of Chicago Department of Human Services. Jones defeated incumbent Larry Bullock in the 1986 Democratic primary for the Illinois House of Representatives. In April 3, 2011, a new Metra train station named after her, 35th Street/Lovana S. 'Lou' Jones/Bronzeville station, was opened on the Rock Island District line.
35th–Bronzeville–IIT is an 'L' station on the CTA's Green Line, located in the Douglas community area. It is situated at 16 E 35th Street, just east of State Street.
Sox–35th is an 'L' station on the CTA's Red Line. It is situated at 142 West 35th Street in the Armour Square neighborhood. The station opened on September 28, 1969, along with the other eight stations on the Dan Ryan branch.

Roosevelt is an "L" station on the CTA's Red, Green, and Orange Lines, located between the Chicago Loop and the Near South Side in Chicago, Illinois.
