Romeoville is a station on Metra's Heritage Corridor at the intersection of 135th Street and New Avenue in Romeoville, Illinois. As of 2018, Romeoville is the 170th busiest of Metra's 236 non-downtown stations, with an average of 148 weekday boardings. [2] As of February 15, 2024, Romeoville is served by three inbound trains in the morning and three outbound trains in the evening on weekdays only.
Romeoville village trustees approved an agreement with the Illinois Department of Transportation for the construction of a new Metra station on the corner of 135th Street and New Avenue on January 7, 2015. The agreement specified that the village of Romeoville would dedicate $550,000 from its Motor Fuel Tax Fund to the project. The state of Illinois would then reimburse the village through a $440,000 Congestion, Mitigation and Air Quality Improvement grant, which would cover 80 percent of the cost. [3] On October 19, 2016, the Illinois Department of Transportation announced that the Romeoville Metra station was selected to receive a $296,700 grant as a part of the Illinois Transportation Enhancement Program. The funds were to help pay for sidewalks, platforms, and a warming shelter in addition to the construction of a nearby access road, and the completion of a multi-use path south of 135th Street with lighting. [4] Construction began in May 2017. [5] The station opened on February 5, 2018. [6]
Previously the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway operated a station which served Romeoville.
The Heritage Corridor (HC) is a Metra commuter rail line in Chicago, Illinois, and its southwestern suburbs, terminating in Joliet, Illinois. While Metra does not refer to its lines by colors, the Heritage Corridor appears on Metra timetables as "Alton Maroon," after the Alton Railroad, which ran trains on this route. The name Heritage Corridor refers to the Illinois and Michigan Canal Heritage Corridor. Established in 1984, it runs parallel to the line.
The Rock Island District (RI) is a Metra commuter rail line from Chicago, Illinois, southwest to Joliet. Metra does not refer to its lines by color, but the timetable accents for the Rock Island District line are "Rocket Red" in honor of the Chicago, Rock Island and Pacific Railroad's Rocket passenger trains.
The Metra Electric District is an electrified commuter rail line owned and operated by Metra which connects Millennium Station, in downtown Chicago, with the city's southern suburbs. As of 2018, it is the fifth busiest of Metra's 11 lines, after the BNSF, UP-NW, UP-N, and UP-W Lines with nearly 7.7 million annual riders. While Metra does not explicitly refer to any of its lines by color, the timetable accents for the Metra Electric District are printed in bright "Panama orange" to reflect the line's origins with the Illinois Central Railroad (IC) and its Panama Limited passenger train. Apart from the spots where its tracks run parallel to other main lines, it is the only Metra line running entirely on dedicated passenger tracks, with no freight trains operating anywhere on the actual route itself. The line is the only one in the Metra system with more than one station in Downtown Chicago, the only line with no stations in fare zone 4, and also has the highest number of stations (49) of any Metra line.
Glenview station is a Metra commuter rail and Amtrak intercity rail station in Glenview, Illinois, United States, north of Chicago. The station is located at 1116 Depot Street, 17.5 miles (28.2 km) from Chicago Union Station, the southern terminus of the lines. The facility opened in March 1995 as a replacement for a since-demolished 1950s era station. The new station, designed by Legat Architects of Waukegan, cost approximately $3 million and was funded from a number of sources, including Metra, the Illinois Department of Transportation, Amtrak and the village of Glenview.
Wilmette is the name of a commuter railroad station in Wilmette, Illinois that is served by Metra's Union Pacific North Line. Trains go south to Ogilvie Transportation Center and as far north as Kenosha, Wisconsin. Travel time to Ogilvie is 31 minutes on local trains, and as little as 27 minutes on morning inbound trains and 22 minutes on one afternoon inbound train. Romeoville station, known as Romeo on timetables, was an Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railway station in the Chicago suburb of Romeoville, Illinois. The station was located near the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Freight trains still pass by the site of the old station, on the double track Southern Transcon Line.
