Buitenveldert is a neighborhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is considered the modern Jewish quarter of Amsterdam with its Synagogue, Jewish schools, nursing homes, shops and restaurants.
From the Middle Ages the 'Binnendijksche Buitenveldertse' polder in the rural Amstelland region was part of the Nieuwer-Amstel municipality. In 1921, the Buitenveldert polder was annexed by the city of Amsterdam. Since then, the Kalfjeslaan on the southside of Buitenveldert has been the city limit.
As part of the Algemene Uitbreidingsplan (‘General Expansion Plan’) of 1935, the Buitenveldert polder became the site of a new suburb. It was the only suburb on the south side of the city; most other suburbs were planned on the west side. In 1958 the first stone was laid for the suburb, which was designed according to the garden city planning principles. In 1959 the first residents moved into their new homes.
In 1987 Buitenveldert was granted the status of a borough. In 1998 the borough merged with the neighboring boroughs of Rivierenbuurt to form the new borough of Zuideramstel, which also included parts of the Prinses Irenebuurt. In 2010, after another merger, Buitenveldert became part of the borough of Amsterdam-Zuid.
In 1998, the masterplan for the Zuidas business district was adopted by the Amsterdam municipal council. The new business district has transformed the northern part of Buitenveldert, whereas the southern part has remained mostly residential. The highlight of this residencial area is the Gelderlandplein, a shopping centre with several clothing shops, jewelries, restaurants, supermarkets and others. It is one of the few shopping centres in Amsterdam but while the others, like Magna Plaza and Bijenkorf, are located in the city centre, the Gelderlandplein is in this residential area.

Homebush West is a suburb in the Inner West of Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Homebush West is located 13 kilometres west of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Municipality of Strathfield, with a small unpopulated strip in the northwest in Cumberland Council. The suburb is commonly referred to as Flemington, even in official contexts. This was the old name of the suburb before the establishment of Sydney Markets in 1975. Subsequently, "Flemington" was confined to the area occupied by the markets, whereas the residential part of the suburb was renamed "Homebush West", after the suburb of Homebush immediately to the east. Both the railway station and various organisations and businesses in the suburb still carry the name "Flemington". Homebush Bay was formerly a separate suburbs to the north.
IJburg is a residential neighbourhood under construction in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is situated in the IJmeer and is being built on artificial islands which have been raised from the lake. The Haveneiland, Rieteilanden, Steigereiland and Centrumeiland are already inhabited as of 2004. It is part of the municipality Amsterdam-Oost and also contains the Diemerpark, one of the city's largest parks.
Amsterdam-Noord is a borough of Amsterdam, Netherlands with a population of about 90,000. The IJ, the body of water which separates it from Amsterdam-Centrum and the rest of the city, is situated southwest of Amsterdam-Noord. The borough, which has an area of 49.01 km2, borders the municipalities of Zaanstad, Oostzaan, Landsmeer and Waterland to the north, all part of the province of North Holland like Amsterdam. It has the highest income per household of all boroughs in Amsterdam.
Omval is a neighbourhood situated on a peninsula on the eastern shore of the Amstel river in Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is situated south of the Weesperzijde neighbourhood and next to the Amsterdam Amstel railway station in the borough of Amsterdam-Oost. In the 1990s, it became the site of a major business district featuring the Rembrandt Tower, the tallest skyscraper in Amsterdam.
De Pijp is a neighbourhood of Amsterdam, Netherlands. It is located directly south of Amsterdam's city centre and it is part of the borough Amsterdam-Zuid, in a part of the city known as the Old South. It is served by De Pijp metro station. Most streets in De Pijp are named after Dutch painters, like Jan Steen, Frans Hals, Ruysdael and Vincent van Gogh. Diamantbuurt, Nieuwe Pijp and Oude Pijp are the three districts composing the area.
