The Mountain Springs Hotel is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is located in Ephrata, Pennsylvania, at the corner of East Main Street and Spring Garden Street. It was originally built in 1848 as a summer resort, capitalizing on its natural spring water, and hosted a variety of high-profile guests including several Presidents. The resort lost its popularity in the early 20th century and fell into disrepair, but was eventually purchased and converted into the first hospital in the Ephrata area—serving from 1937 through 1949. It remained under private ownership and became dilapidated over the following decades, culminating in its complete closure in 1988 and the auctioning of its contents in 1991. The following decade was met with a variety of redevelopment proposals, and in the years around the turn of the 21st century it was decided that the property would be redeveloped with another hotel. The majority of the Mountain Springs Hotel was demolished in 2004, retaining a portion of the Konigmacher mansion. Today, a Hampton Inn hotel and Applebee's restaurant occupy the site alongside the restored building from the original Mountain Springs Hotel.
Anoatok, now Kane Manor Inn, is an historic residence which is located in Kane, Pennsylvania, in McKean County. Commissioned by the author, physician and women's rights activist Elizabeth Dennistoun Wood Kane (1836–1909), one of the first women to enroll in the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the widow of American Civil War General Thomas L. Kane (1822–1883), the home was erected in 1896 after being designed for Elizabeth Kane by Cope & Stewardson, one of the most prominent architecture firms of the late 1800s and early 1900s. The mansion's name alludes to the exploits of her late brother-in-law and Arctic explorer Elisha Kent Kane.
Hill's Tavern is a historic building in Scenery Hill, Pennsylvania. It was heavily damaged by a fire that started shortly before midnight on August 17, 2015. For a period in the early 1900s, the inn was known as Central Hotel. Now called the Century Inn, it has been claimed to have been the oldest tavern in continuous use on the National Road, until the fire brought an end to its 221 years of continuous operation.

Notable non-residential buildings include the David Boal Tavern (1803), Wolf's Inn (1803-1832), and Boalsburg Tavern (1819). Located in the district is the separately listed Boal Mansion.

The district includes Old Main (1930), the Faculty Club (1976), Nittany Lion Inn (1930), Recreation Hall (1928), West Halls Complex (1922-1937), University Club (1916), the President's Mansion, Pattee Library (1938), Schwab Auditorium (1902), and a number of fraternities, sororities, and classroom buildings. The buildings reflect a number of popular early-20th-century architectural styles including Colonial Revival, Classical Revival, and Georgian Revival. A focal point of the district is the Nittany Lion Shrine (1942).

Dritt Mansion, named after its longest occupants, and also called Pleasant Garden, and current home to the Zimmerman Center for Heritage, is a historic home located at Lower Windsor Township, York County, Pennsylvania. It was built about 1758, and is a 2+1⁄2-story, fieldstone dwelling. It measures 50 feet (15.2 m) long and 40 (12.2 m) feet wide, with a cedar-shingled gable roof. The house has remained virtually unchanged since its construction. The land the house is on was first granted by Lord Baltimore to Thomas Cresap in 1729, who operated a ferry here and claimed the area for Maryland. Cresap was arrested in 1736 and driven away after skirmishes known as "Cresap's War"—a dispute finally resolved in 1784 when the Mason–Dixon line was established. Today the home plays host to Heritage Area offices and programs and the Visions of the Susquehanna River Art Collection.
Emig Mansion is a historic home located at Emigsville, Manchester Township, York County, Pennsylvania, US. It was built in about 1810 and is a 2½-story, Georgian-style brick dwelling. It measures about 66 feet long by 30 feet wide. It is five bays wide and two bays deep and has a slate-covered gable roof. A large wing was added in about 1885. The wing is four bays by two bays and integral porches. The house was remodeled in the early 20th century to add a large two-story bay window and porches. The front porch has Doric order columns and the porch on the south facade is semi-circular.

The Gosby House Inn, in Pacific Grove, California, is a two-story Victorian mansion that was built in 1887 by J.F. Gosby. The Inn evolved architecturally in stages, from a vernacular boarding house serving a religious retreat to a Queen Anne hotel catering to vacationers. The Victorian was listed on the National Register of Historic Places of local significance category on December 2, 1980.
