This is a summary of the electoral history of Narendra Modi , who is the incumbent Prime Minister of India since 2014 and served as the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014. He currently represents Varanasi as a Member of Parliament in Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian parliament.

He contested his first election in February 2002 by-election to the Gujarat Legislative Assembly from the Rajkot II constituency. [1] Later that year in 2002 elections he contested from Maninagar and won. He was re-elected from Maninagar in 2007 and 2012 and represented the constituency till 2014 when he became the Prime Minister of India.

In 2014, Modi contested for the two Lok Sabha constituencies: Varanasi and Vadodara. [2] He won in both constituencies, defeating Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal in Varanasi and Madhusudan Mistry of the Indian National Congress in Vadodara. [3] To comply with the law that an elected representative cannot represent more than one constituency, he vacated the Vadodara seat. [4] In 2019 he was again re-elected from Varanasi.

Keshubhai Patel was an Indian politician who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat in 1995 and again from 1998 to 2001. He was a six-time member of Gujarat Legislative Assembly. He was a member of RSS since 1940s, of Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1960s, Janata Party in 1970s, and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) from 1980. He left the BJP in 2012 and formed the Gujarat Parivartan Party. He was elected from Visavadar in the 2012 state assembly election but resigned in 2014 due to ill health and merged his party with BJP. He was awarded India's third highest civilian award the Padma Bhushan posthumously in 2021.

General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 election. Around 23.1 million or 2.71% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. The Indian National Congress (INC) is one of the two major political parties in India. The prominent members of the party are the president Sonia Gandhi, vice-president Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and Priyanka Gandhi. INC took part in the elections alongside other members of the United Progressive Alliance. On the fourth anniversary of the second United Progressive Alliance government, the INC announced that its campaign for the election would be led by Prime minister Manmohan Singh, party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

Rajkot West is one of the 182 Legislative Assembly constituencies of Gujarat state in India. It is part of Rajkot district and it came into existence after 2008 delimitation. Prior to that some areas under it were called 'Rajkot II' seat. Its current MLA was Gujarat's Chief Minister Vijay Rupani. It is a segment of Rajkot Lok Sabha constituency.
