Ghataprabha is a village in the north of the Indian state of Karnataka. [1] [2] It is located in the Gokak taluk of Belgaum district in Karnataka.
As of the 2001 India census, Ghataprabha had a population of more than 80,000. [1] There are two hospitals, KHI (Karnatak Health Institute) and JG Co-operative Hospital, which also has an Ayurvedic medical college.
There is reservoir built near Ghataprabha, across the Ghataprabha River, to store water for irrigation. The first stage started in 1897 and comprised a 71 km-long left bank canal from the Dupdal weir, across the Ghataprabha River near Ghataprabha, into the Gokak Canal. It provided irrigation to an extent of 425,000 hectares. The second stage of the reservoir project comprised a left bank canal from Dupdal weir from 72 km to its full extent of 109 km across the Ghataprabha River near Hidkal, up to a height of 650.14 meters.
The Ghataprabha Reservoir has storage of about 659 million cubic meters, providing irrigation to a total extent of 1,396,000 hectares of land, inclusive of the area under stage I. The third stage of the project includes raising the Full Reservoir Level of to 662.94 meters. This would create gross storage of 1.448 billion cubic meters, channelised into a 202 km-long right bank canal and the 86 km-long Chickkodi Branch Canal. This would irrigate 191,386 hectares of land and bring the total area under the project to 3,310,000 hectares.
Ghataprabha is also known for its wholesale vegetable market. Vegetables from Ghataprabha are distributed not just across northern Karnataka, but also to various cities in Maharashtra and Goa.
Ghataprabha Bird Sanctuary is 29.78 square kilometres, and its boundaries enclose a stretch of about 28 km of the Ghataprabha River, including the reservoir resulting from the dam built near Dhupdhal. The sanctuary is known for migratory birds such as the demoiselle crane and European white stork. It is surrounded by agricultural fields. Between November and March is the best time to visit the sanctuary, when most of the migratory bird species nest there.
Ghatprabha is on the main Indian Railways grid, being part of south western division, and is well connected by rail to major destinations such as Bangalore, Mysore, Mangalore, Pune, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Goa and New Delhi.

The Gandhi Sagar Dam is one of the four major dams built on India's Chambal River. The dam is located in the Mandsaur district of the state of Madhya Pradesh. It is a masonry gravity dam, standing 62.17 metres (204.0 ft) high, with a gross storage capacity of 7.322 billion cubic metres from a catchment area of 22,584 km2 (8,720 sq mi). The dam's foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on 7 March 1954, and construction of the main dam was done by leading contractor Dwarka Das Agrawal & Associates and was completed in 1960. Additional dam structures were completed downstream in the 1970s.

Maharana Pratap Sagar, also known as Pong Reservoir or Pong Dam Lake is a large reservoir in Fatehpur, Jawali and Dehra tehsil of Kangra district of the state of Himachal Pradesh in India. It was created in 1975, by building the highest earthfill dam in India on the Beas River in the wetland zone of the Siwalik Hills. Named in the honour of Maharana Pratap (1540–1597), the reservoir or the lake is a well-known wildlife sanctuary and one of the 49 international wetland sites declared in India by the Ramsar Convention. The reservoir covers an area of 24,529 hectares, and the wetlands portion is 15,662 hectares.

Jayakwadi dam is an earthen dam located on Godavari river at the site of Jayakwadi village in Paithan taluka of Aurangabad district in Maharashtra, India. It is a multipurpose project. The water is mainly used to irrigate agricultural land in the drought-prone Marathwada region of the state. It also provides water for drinking and industrial usage to nearby towns and villages and to the municipalities and industrial areas of Sambhajinagar and Jalna districts. The surrounding area of the dam has a garden and a bird sanctuary.

The dam is a composite earth+masonry dam of 42.7 metres (140 ft) height with a water spread area of 24 km2 (9.3 sq mi).
The Bhadra Dam or Lakkavalli Dam, which has created the Bhadra Reservoir, is located on the Bhadra River a tributary of Tungabhadra River. Bhadra Dam is located in the border of Bhadravathi and Tarikere, in the western part of Karnataka in India. The benefits derived from the reservoir storage are irrigation with gross irrigation potential of 162,818 hectares, hydro power generation of 39.2 MW, drinking water supply and industrial use. The dam commissioned in 1965 is a composite earth cum masonry structure of 59.13 metres (194.0 ft) height with length of 1,708 metres (5,604 ft) at the crest level, which submerges a land area of 11,250.88 hectares.
The Pazhassi Dam also called Kulur Barrage is a stone masonry diversion structure in Kannur district, Kerala, India. It is named after king Pazhassi Raja, a patriot who died a heroic death in the war. The dam is constructed across the west flowing Bavali river near Veliyambra. It was commissioned by Prime Minister Morarji Desai in 1979. It mainly functions as an irrigation dam, serving a command area of 11,525 hectares in Iritty taluk of the Kannur District. The water from this dam also meets the drinking water requirement of Kannur district. The dam site and the reservoir are known for their scenery.

It rises in the Bailur in Khanapur Taluk of Belgaum district, Karnataka state, enters Belagavi taluk on southern side and flows towards western side of the Belagavi city and flows 66 kilometres (41 mi) in Belgaum district forming beautiful Godchinamalaki Falls before reaching its confluence into the Ghataprabha River at Gokak about 60 kilometres (37 mi) from Belgaum.
