HD 117618, named Dofida by the IAU, [8] is a single, [9] yellow-hued star in the southern constellation of Centaurus. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.17, [2] it is too faint to be visible to the naked eyes of a typical observer. The distance to this star, as determined from its annual parallax shift of 26.34±0.60  mas as seen from Earth's orbit, [1] is about 124  light years. It is moving further away with a heliocentric radial velocity of around +1.6 km/s. [2]

This star is similar to the Sun, being a G-type main-sequence star with a stellar classification of G0 V. [3] It is about 10% more massive and 17% larger than the Sun, with an estimated age of roughly four billion years [4] and a projected rotational velocity of 3.67 km/s. [6] The star is radiating 1.6 times the Sun's luminosity from its photosphere at an effective temperature of 6,019 K. [4]

Name

HD 117618, and its planet HD 117618b, were chosen as part of the 2019 NameExoWorlds campaign organised by the International Astronomical Union, which assigned each country a star and planet to be named. HD 117618 was assigned to Indonesia. The winning proposal named the star "Dofida" meaning our star in Nias language, and its planet "Noifasui" meaning revolve around in Nias language (derived from the word ifasui, meaning to revolve around, and no, indicating that the action occurred in the past and continued to the present time). [8]

Planetary system

In 2005, the Anglo-Australian Planet Search program announced the discovery of a low-mass planet in orbit around HD 117618. This object was found through measurements of radial velocity variation, which were larger than those produced by the intrinsic jitter of the host star. The best Keplerian fit to the data gave a periodicity of 25.8 days with an eccentricity of around 0.37 and a semimajor axis of 0.17  AU . The lower bound on the object's mass was estimated to be 0.16  MJ . [10] These values were subsequently refined, as shown in the table below. [11]

The star is drifting closer to the Earth with a heliocentric radial velocity of −51 km/s.

HD 46375 is double star with an exoplanetary companion in the equatorial constellation of Monoceros. It presents as an 8th-magnitude star with an apparent visual magnitude of 7.91, which is too dim to be readily visible to the naked eye. The system is located at a distance of 96.5 light-years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, but is slowly drifting closer with a radial velocity of −1 km/s. The common proper motion stellar companion, designated HD 46375 B, has a linear projected separation of 346±13 AU.

HD 114729 is a 7th magnitude star approximately 118 ly (36.1 pc) away in the constellation of Centaurus. Like the Sun (G2V), it is a yellow dwarf. It is about the same mass as the Sun, but twice as luminous. That indicates a much greater age, perhaps over 10 billion years. HD 114729 has a co-moving companion designated HD 114729 B, with the latter having 25.3% of the Sun's mass and a projected separation of 282±10 AU.

HD 179949 is a 6th magnitude star in the constellation of Sagittarius. It is a yellow-white dwarf, a type of star hotter and more luminous than the Sun. The star is located about 90 light years from Earth and might be visible under exceptionally good conditions to an experienced observer without technical aid; usually binoculars are needed.

HD 114783 is a star with two exoplanetary companions in the equatorial constellation of Virgo. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.56 it is too faint to be visible with the unaided eye, but is an easy target for binoculars. Based on parallax measurements, it is located at a distance of 68.7 light years from the Sun, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −12 km/s.

HD 210277 is a single star in the equatorial constellation of Aquarius. It has an apparent visual magnitude of 6.54, which makes it a challenge to view with the naked eye, but it is easily visible in binoculars. The star is located at a distance of 69.5 light years from the Sun based on parallax, but is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −20.9 km/s.

HD 28185 is a yellow dwarf star similar to the Sun located 128 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Eridanus. The designation HD 28185 refers to its entry in the Henry Draper catalogue. The star is known to possess one long-period extrasolar planet.

HD 142 is a wide binary star system in the southern constellation of Phoenix. The main component has a yellow-white hue and is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.7. The system is located at a distance of 85.5 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +6 km/s.

HD 40979 is a triple star system in the northern constellation of Auriga. The combined brightness of this group lies below the typical limit of visibility to the naked eye at an apparent visual magnitude of 6.74. It is located at a distance of approximately 108 light years from the Sun based on parallax. The system is receding with a radial velocity of +32 km/s. It has a relatively high rate of proper motion, traversing the celestial sphere at the rate of 0.182″ per year.

HD 89744 is a star in the northern circumpolar constellation of Ursa Major, positioned about 0.4° due south of the bright star Tania Australis. This object has a yellow-white hue and is dimly visible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 5.73. The distance to this star has been measured using the patallax method, which locates it 126 light years from the Sun. It is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −4.4 km/s. There are two known exoplanets orbiting this star.

Tau1 Gruis, Latinized from τ1 Gruis, and catalogued as HD 216435 and HR 8700, is a yellow-hued star approximately 106 light-years away in the constellation of Grus. The star is visible to the naked eye for some people, placing it in the Bright Star Catalogue. In 2002, one extrasolar planet was confirmed to orbit the star.

HD 222582 is a multiple star system in the equatorial constellation of Aquarius. It is invisible to the naked eye with an apparent visual magnitude of 7.7, but can be viewed with binoculars or a small telescope. The system is located at a distance of 138 light years from the Sun based on parallax, and it is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +12 km/s. It is located close enough to the ecliptic that it is subject to lunar occultations.

HD 154857 is a star with two exoplanetary companions in the southern constellation of Ara. It is too dim to be visible with the naked eye having an apparent visual magnitude of 7.25. The star is located at a distance of 207 light years from the Sun based on parallax measurements, and is drifting further away with a radial velocity of +28 km/s.

Gliese 86 is a K-type main-sequence star approximately 35 light-years away in the constellation of Eridanus. It has been confirmed that a white dwarf orbits the primary star. In 1998 the European Southern Observatory announced that an extrasolar planet was orbiting the star.

HD 4203 is a single star in the equatorial constellation of Pisces, near the northern constellation border with Andromeda. It has a yellow hue and is too faint to be viewed with the naked eye, having an apparent visual magnitude of 8.70. The distance to this object is 266 light years based on parallax, but it is drifting closer to the Sun with a radial velocity of −14 km/s.

HD 8574 is a single star in the equatorial constellation of Pisces. It can be viewed with binoculars or a telescope, but not with the naked eye having a low apparent visual magnitude of +7.12. The distance to this object is 146 light years based on parallax, and it has an absolute magnitude of 3.88. The star is drifting further away from the Sun with a radial velocity of +18 km/s. It has a relatively high proper motion, advancing across the celestial sphere at the rate of 0.298 arc seconds per annum.

HD 117207 is a star in the southern constellation Centaurus. With an apparent visual magnitude of 7.24, it is too dim to be visible to the naked eye but can be seen with a small telescope. Based upon parallax measurements, it is located at a distance of 105.4 light-years from the Sun. The star is drifting closer with a radial velocity of −17.4 km/s. It has an absolute magnitude of 4.67.
