Jacobsbaai is a settlement in West Coast District Municipality in the Western Cape province of South Africa.

Jacobsbaai was founded as a small town on the farmland registered as 109 Jacobsbaai. The name is said to have come from the Frenchman Jacques Titius. He was a colonial trader in the West Coast. Tietiesbaai is also named after him, and Jacobsbaai has a street called Titius. Another explanation for the name is that the English king entrusted the piece of land to a local known as ‘Jacob', a chief of the Gonneman Hottentots.

Johann Elert Bode was a German astronomer known for his reformulation and popularisation of the Titius–Bode law. Bode determined the orbit of Uranus and suggested the planet's name.

The Titius–Bode law is a formulaic prediction of spacing between planets in any given solar system. The formula suggests that, extending outward, each planet should be approximately twice as far from the Sun as the one before. The hypothesis correctly anticipated the orbits of Ceres and Uranus, but failed as a predictor of Neptune's orbit. It is named after Johann Daniel Titius and Johann Elert Bode.

Bowditch is a lunar impact crater that lies on the far side of the Moon, just beyond the eastern limb. It lies just to the north of the small Lacus Solitudinis lunar mare, between the craters Titius to the southwest and Perel'man to the east-northeast.

Phaeton was the hypothetical planet hypothesized by the Titius–Bode law to have existed between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter, the destruction of which supposedly led to the formation of the asteroid belt.
