Joseph Akinyele Omoyajowo was the Anglican Bishop of Ijebu in Province One of the Church of Nigeria from 1999 until his retirement in 2004.

He was born on 31 December 1934 in Isarun, Ondo. Omoyajowo was Professor of Religious Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University. [1] He was the pioneer  Bishop of Ikale-Ilaje (renamed to Bishop of On the Coast) [2] before being posted to Ijebu. [3]

He attended St. John's College, Owo, from 1953 to 1958 and Immanuel College of Theology, Ibadan, from 1961 to 1963. He was at the University of Ibadan from 1963 to 1970 and Southern Methodist University, Dallas, Texas, USA, from 1968 until 1969. He was a lecturer at the University of Ibadan from 1970 till 1975, and became Professor of Religious Studies at Obafemi Awolowo University [1] in 1981.

He is a prolific author; [4] his books include Bishop Isaac Oyelaja Sonola Okunsanya: His Life and Time [5] and Cherubim and Seraphim: The History of an African Independent Church. [6]

Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo was a Yoruba nationalist and Nigerian statesman who played a key role in Nigeria's independence movement (1957-1960). Awolowo founded the Yoruba nationalist group Egbe Omo Oduduwa, and was the first Leader of Government Business and Minister of Local Government and Finance, and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria's parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959. He was the official Leader of the Opposition in the federal parliament to the Balewa government from 1959 to 1963.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal government-owned university that is located in the ancient city of Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. It was renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on 12 May 1987 in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, whose idea the university was.

The term "Aladura" means "praying person" in Yoruba. Aladura is a classification of indigenous churches in south-western Nigeria that started in the early 20th century. These churches believe in the efficacy of prayers and practical guidance by God through the Holy Spirit in all its programs.

Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) is the first Aladura Pentecostal church present in Nigeria and other countries. It arose in the first half of the 20th century, in the then-British empire. It was formally established in 1941 after a split from the Apostolic Church which the original Aladura organization had invited to Nigeria. Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye was a bishop of the Church of Nigeria and Archbishop of the Anglican Province of Lagos, Nigeria. Until his death, he was the Bishop of Lagos, and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Church of Nigeria having been Bishop of Osun North East Diocese, Otan Ayegbaj until 2018, and presented as the Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province on 7 November 2021, at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Abuja.

Oluwagbemiro Fabuluje is the Anglican Bishop of Oke-Osun in Ibadan Province of the Church of Nigeria.
