Ibadan is the capital and most populous city of Oyo State, in Nigeria. It is the third-largest city by population in Nigeria after Lagos and Kano, with a total population of 3,649,000 as of 2021, and nearly 4 million within its metropolitan area. It is one of the country's largest cities by geographical area. At the time of Nigeria's independence in 1960, Ibadan was the largest and most populous city in the country, and the second-most populous in Africa behind Cairo. Ibadan is ranked one of the fastest-growing cities in sub-Saharan Africa, according to the UN Human Settlements Program (2022). It is also ranked third in West Africa in the tech startups index. Ibadan joined the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities in 2016.
Chief Obafemi Jeremiah Oyeniyi Awolowo was a Nigerian nationalist and politician who played a key role in Nigeria's independence movement (1957–1960). Awolowo founded the Yoruba nationalist group Egbe Omo Oduduwa, and was the first Leader of Government Business and Minister of Local Government and Finance, and first Premier of the Western Region under Nigeria's parliamentary system, from 1952 to 1959. He was the official opposition leader in the federal parliament to the Balewa government from 1959–1963.

Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) is a federal university in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Nigeria. The university was founded in 1961 and classes commenced in October 1962 as the University of Ife by the regional government of Western Nigeria, which was led by Samuel Ladoke Akintola. It was renamed "Obafemi Awolowo University" on 12 May 1987, so by the Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida led military administration, in honour of Obafemi Awolowo (1909–1987), the first premier of the Western Region of Nigeria, who initially thought of the idea of establishing the university.
The term "Aladura" means "praying person" in Yoruba. Aladura is a classification of indigenous churches that started in Yoruba land in the early 20th century. These churches believe in the efficacy of prayers and practical guidance by the Living God through his Holy Spirit in all its programs.

Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) is the first Pentecostal church present in Nigeria. It arose in the first half of the 20th century, in the then-British empire. Oluwole Akinyele Agbede is a professor of Water resources and Geotechnical engineering at the University of Ibadan. He is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science who was elected into the Academy's Fellowship at its Annual General Meeting held in January 2015. He received a bachelor's degree in Applied Geophysics in 1976 and master's degrees in Engineering Geology in 1982 from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile Ife and a doctorate degree in Civil engineering from City University London in 1985.

Humphrey Bamisebi Olumakaiye was a bishop of the Church of Nigeria and Archbishop of the Anglican Province of Lagos, Nigeria. Until his death, he was the Bishop of Lagos, and Archbishop of the Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, Church of Nigeria having been Bishop of Osun North East Diocese, Otan Ayegbaj until 2018, and presented as the Archbishop of Lagos Ecclesiastical Province on 7 November 2021, at the Cathedral Church of Advent, Life Camp, Abuja.
