Wrestling is a martial art and combat sport that involves grappling with an opponent and striving to obtain a position of advantage through different throws or techniques, within a given ruleset. Wrestling involves different grappling-type techniques, such as clinch fighting, throws and takedowns, joint locks, pins, and other grappling holds. Many different wrestling techniques have been incorporated into martial arts, combat sports, and military systems.
Amateur wrestling is a variant of wrestling practiced at Olympic, collegiate, scholastic, and other levels. There are two international wrestling styles performed at the Olympic Games, freestyle and Greco-Roman, both of which are governed by the United World Wrestling (UWW).
Freestyle wrestling is a style of wrestling. Along with Greco-Roman, it is one of two styles of wrestling contested in the Olympic Games. High school wrestling and men's collegiate wrestling in the United States are conducted under different rules and termed scholastic and collegiate wrestling. U.S. collegiate women's wrestling is conducted under freestyle rules.
Abbas Jadidi is an Iranian wrestler who competed in the Freestyle Heavyweight (90–100 kg) category at the 1996 Summer Olympics, losing to Kurt Angle and winning the silver medal. He won the 1993 FILA World Wrestling Championships, but later tested positive for a banned substance. He was stripped of the title and suspended from competing for two years for doping. He was elected as a member of Tehran City Council in 2013 local elections.
United World Wrestling (UWW) is the international governing body for the sport of Wrestling; its duties include overseeing wrestling at the World Championships and Olympics. It presides over international competitions for various forms of wrestling, including Greco-Roman, Freestyle, Grappling, and others. The flagship event of UWW is the World Wrestling Championships.
Rasoul Khadem Azghadi is a former Iranian wrestler who has won a bronze medal in the 1992 Summer Olympics and a gold medal in the 1996 Summer Olympics. He was also the 1994 and 1995 world champion and 1991, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 1996 Asian champion. He was trained by his father Mohammad Khadem, and he is also the younger brother of Olympic wrestling bronze medalists Amir Reza Khadem and Ebrahim Khadem.
Emam-Ali Habibi Goudarzi is a retired Iranian freestyle wrestler. He won gold medals at the 1958 Asian Games; 1959, 1961 and 1962 world championships; and 1956 Olympics, placing fourth in 1960. In 2007 he was inducted into the FILA Hall of Fame. Habibi was the fourth and the last son in a large family. He lost his father at the age of 12.
Abdollah Movahed Ardabili is a retired Iranian lightweight freestyle wrestler. He competed at the 1964, 1968 and 1972 Olympics and won a gold medal in 1968. He served as flag bearer for Iran at the Opening Ceremony of the 1970 Asian Games, and won a gold medal a few days later.
Askari Mohammadian is a retired Iranian freestyle wrestler. He won gold medals at the 1983 Asian Championships and 1986 Asian Games, placing second at the 1982 Asian Games, 1988 and 1992 Olympics, 1989 world and 1989 Asian Championships. His 1988 Olympic silver was the only medal for Iran at those Games.
Ebrahim Javadipour is a retired Iranian freestyle wrestler. He won a world title in 1969, 1970, 1971 and 1973 and a gold medal at the Asian Games in 1970 and 1974, but placed third at the 1972 Olympics. He is listed in the FILA wrestling hall of fame.
The Azadi Indoor Stadium, officially named Azadi 12,000 Capacity Hall, is an indoor sports arena in Tehran, Iran. The stadium has a seating capacity of 6,583, and the stadium capacity with standing room is 12,000. The stadium is located within the Azadi Sport Complex, it is mainly used for volleyball, wrestling and futsal matches, but occasionally basketball games are played here. The stadium hosts Iran's national volleyball team, the FIVB Volleyball World League, and the 2014 FILA Wrestling World Cup.
Mehdi Taghavi Kermani is an Iranian wrestler. Taghavi was the favorite to win the 2012 London Olympics but was upset in the first round by Cuba's Liván López who ended up winning the bronze. Taghavi had previously beaten Lopez at the 2011 World Wrestling Championships.

The cups have been conducted by FILA every year since the 1973 tournament. The World Cup began as a dual-meet competition for the top teams on each continent, but now features the top teams in the rankings of the previous year's world championships.

Behrouz Jamshidi (Persian: بهروز جمشيدی; born August 23, 1972, in is a retired amateur Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler, who competed in the men's light heavyweight category. On January 3, 2000, the International Federation of Associated Wrestling ordered him a two-year suspension from competition for testing positive for doping.
