Brazilian comics started in the 19th century, adopting a satirical style known as cartoon, charges or caricature that would later be cemented in the popular comic strips. The publication of magazines dedicated exclusively to comics, in Brazil, started at the beginning of the 20th century. Brazilian artists have worked with both styles. In the case of American comics some have achieved international fame, like Roger Cruz with X-Men and Mike Deodato with Thor, Wonder Woman and others.

<i>Sítio do Picapau Amarelo</i> (comics) Brazilian comic book series

Sítio do Picapau Amarelo was a Brazilian comic book series based on the eponymous novel series Sítio do Picapau Amarelo by Monteiro Lobato. It was originally released in 1977 on the success of the TV series produced by Rede Globo, comic books were published by the publisher RGE who would later become Editora Globo. It continued to be sold until 1979 when the characters Emília, Pedrinho and Visconde now has his own comics replacing the Sítio do Picapau Amarelo, but the comics only lasted two years being sold, and in 1981 the Sítio do Picapau Amarelo returned to be published. The comics remained being published until 1984, two years before the end of the TV series.

Astronauta – Magnetar is a 2012 Brazilian graphic novel written and illustrated by Danilo Beyruth based on the character Astronauta created by Maurício de Sousa. It is the first installment in the Graphic MSP series of graphic novels based on Maurício de Sousa characters. The graphic novel had a continuation in Astronauta - Singularidade (2014), Astronauta - Assimetria (2016), Astronauta - Entropia (2018), Astronauta - Parallax (2020) and Astronauta: Convergência (2022).

<i>O Menino Maluquinho</i> Comic series by Ziraldo

O Menino Maluquinho is a children's media franchise created by the Brazilian writer and cartoonist Ziraldo in the 80s. It started as a children's book published in 1980 which for many years was regarded as a classic of children's literature in Brazil, getting spun off into comics, movies, plays and TV series, as well being known for being Ziraldo's longest running comic book series and the second most popular, after "Turma do Pererê".

Antônio de Souza Mendes Neto, better known as Toninho Mendes, was a Brazilian editor. He started working in the 1960s, going through several publishers and alternative newspapers, such as Movimento and Versus. In 1984, Mendes founded Circo Editorial, considered the most important Brazilian publishing house of alternative comics in the 1980s and 1990s. Circo featured artists such as Laerte, Angeli and Glauco, among other important names in the Brazilian underground comics that achieved prominence in the publications published by Mendes. The story of Circo publishing house was told by Mendes himself in the book Humor Paulistano: a experiência da Circo Editorial, 1984-1985, which won the Troféu HQ Mix in 2015 in two categories: "Best Theoretical Book" and "Best Editorial Project". Mendes also won the Troféu HQ Mix in 2011 in "Best Erotic Publication" category for Quadrinhos Sacanas, a collection organized by him which published anonymous erotic comics created between the 1950s and 1980s.

Itiban Comic Shop is a Brazilian comic book store founded in 1989 by the couple Mitie Taketani and Francisco Utrabo in Curitiba. It was the first bookstore specializing in comics in the Brazilian South Region and one of the pioneers in Brazil. The name references the Japanese word "ichiban" (一番), meaning "number 1".

Bigorna was a Brazilian website about comics with an almost exclusive focus on Brazilian comics.
