This article lists political parties in Tajikistan. Tajikistan is a one party dominant state with the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan in power. Opposition parties are allowed, but are widely considered to have no real chance of gaining power.
The politics of Tajikistan takes place in a framework of a presidential republic, whereby the President is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Legislative power is vested in both the executive branch and the two chambers of parliament.
The People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan has been the dominant and ruling party of Tajikistan since 1994. Founded in 1994 by Abdulmajid Dostiev as the People's Party of Tajikistan, the seat of the party is located in the Palace of Unity in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan. Since April 1998, the leader of the party has been the President of Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon.
The Tajikistani Civil War, also known as the Tajik Civil War, began in May 1992 and ended in June 1997. Regional groups from the Garm and Gorno-Badakhshan regions of Tajikistan rose up against the newly-formed government of President Rahmon Nabiyev, which was dominated by people from the Khujand and Kulob regions. The rebel groups were led by a combination of liberal democratic reformers and Islamists, who would later organize under the banner of the United Tajik Opposition. The government was supported by Russian military and border guards.
The Communist Party of Tajikistan is a communist party in Tajikistan, and the oldest political party in the country. The party was founded on 6 January 1924 and was the ruling party of the Tajik Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic from 1924 to 1929 and the Tajik Soviet Socialist Republic from 1929 to 1990 as part of the Soviet Union as a republican branch of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union. It was banned in 1991 following the 1991 coup.
The Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan, also known as the Islamic Revival Party of Tajikistan, is a banned Islamist political party in Tajikistan. Until 2015, when it was designated a terrorist organisation, it was the only legal Islamist party in Central Asia.
The Democratic Party is a political party in Tajikistan founded in August 1990 by Mahmadruzi Iskandarov. Along with the other Tajik opposition parties, it was banned from July 1993 to August 1999.
The Socialist Party of Tajikistan is a political party in Tajikistan. The party was founded on 15 June 1996, and registered on 6 August the same year. The party publishes Ittixod (Иттиход). The chairman of the party, Safarali Kenjayev, was assassinated in Dushanbe in 1999. Prior to his murder, there had been speculations that he might have intended to run for president.
The Social Democratic Party is a centre-left political party in Tajikistan registered on 20 December 2002 and led by Rahmatullo Zoirov. The party is opposed to the authoritarian government led by the People's Democratic Party of Tajikistan, and has been recognized as the only Tajik party to explicitly oppose President Emomali Rahmon.
The Kurdistan Social Democratic Party is a political party in Kurdistan Region. It was founded as Kurdistan Socialist Party - Iraq. The first leader was Saleh Yousefi after 1981.
The Ittihodi Scouthoi Tojikiston, the national Scouting organization of Tajikistan, was founded in 1993, and became a member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) on April 18, 1997. The coeducational Ittihodi Scouthoi Tojikiston has 511 members as of 2011. Tajikistan is the only one of the three Persian nations thus far whose Scouting is recognized by WOSM.
The Tajikistan Central Stadium, also known as Pamir Stadium or Central Tajikistan Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It is currently used mostly for football matches. The stadium currently holds 20,000. It is currently the home ground of the Tajikistan national football team, Istiqlol Dushanbe and CSKA Pamir Dushanbe. It also hosted Afghanistan national football team matches during 2022 World Cup qualification.

For most of the population, radio and television are the most important sources of information. During the civil war (1992–97), the Rakhmonov government severely repressed both broadcast and print media; since that time, neither has recovered independent operations. In 2006 six government television stations and 18 private stations were in operation, but most of the latter depended on government transmission equipment. Although the law requires registration of independent broadcast outlets, some unlicensed stations have operated. Russian channels are received by satellite, and most regions receive one of the two national television channels. Radio stations broadcast in Persian, Russian, Tajik, and Uzbek. In 2000 there were 141 radios and 326 television sets per 1,000 population. Televizioni Tojikiston is the state-run public broadcaster.
The Agrarian Party of Tajikistan is an officially registered political party in Tajikistan, founded on November 15, 2005. The party's headquarters are located in the center of Dushanbe, and the party's youth wing is based at the Tajik Agrarian University in northern Dushanbe. The chief of the APT is Rustam Latifzoda.
Tojikiston Soveti, also known as Dushanbe Tojikiston Soveti, was a newspaper published in Dushanbe, Tajikistan. It was published during the Soviet Union period, published between 1955 and 1991. The paper, run by the central committee of the Communist Party of Tajikistan, was a continuation of the earlier papers Idi Tojik and Bedorii Tojik (1925-28), and Tojikistoni Surkh (1928-1955).
The Party of People's Unity was a liberal-conservative and secularist political party in Tajikistan. The party was founded by Abdumalik Abdullajanov in 1994 and banned in 1998. It was a part of the United Tajik Opposition faction during the Tajikistani Civil War.
The Supreme Soviet of the Tajik SSR was the supreme soviet of the Tajik SSR, one of the republics comprising the Soviet Union. The Supreme Soviet had very little power and carried out orders given by the Communist Party of Tajikistan (CPT), until democratic elections held during glasnost and perestroika.
