The Montezuma Downtown Historic District is a nationally recognized historic district located in Montezuma, Iowa, United States. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2012. [1] The historic district covers Montezuma's central business district, and includes the Poweshiek County Courthouse, Carter Hotel, and the Carnegie Library building. [2] Iowa architect Frank E. Wetherell has at least one building.

The Davenport Public Library is a public library located in Davenport, Iowa. With a history dating back to 1839, the Davenport Public Library's Main Library is currently housed in a 1960s building designed by Kennedy Center architect Edward Durell Stone. The Davenport Public Library system is made up of three libraries—the Main Library at 321 Main Street; the Fairmount Branch Library at 3000 N. Fairmount Street (41°33′06″N90°37′54″W); and the Eastern Avenue Branch Library at 6000 Eastern Avenue (41°34′59″N90°33′12″W).

In 2012 it was listed as a contributing property in the Montezuma Downtown Historic District. The courthouse is the second building the county has used for court functions and county administration.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Frank E. Wetherell</span> American architect

Frank E. Wetherell was an American architect in the Midwest U.S. state of Iowa who was active from 1892 to 1931. Frank Wetherell was educated in the Oskaloosa, Iowa schools, and went on to Iowa City where he first studied civil engineering at the State University of Iowa, then changed to the field of architecture. It appears that he began his professional career in Oskaloosa in 1892, at the age of twenty-two. Following his marriage in 1894 to Amy Loosley, the couple moved to Peoria, Illinois, where Frank practiced for four years there before returning to Oskaloosa. The earliest architectural Frank Wetherell commission known in Oskaloosa is the renovation of the N.B. Weeks residence at 407 A Avenue East in 1894. Frank Wetherell founded the second oldest architectural firm in the state in Des Moines, Iowa, in 1905. He worked with Roland Harrison in partnership Wetherell & Harrison. The firm designed numerous Masonic buildings.

The Paul–Helen Building is a historic building in downtown Iowa City, Iowa. The Chicago school building was the first part of a renewal of downtown Iowa City starting in the 1910s.

The New Carroll House Hotel, also known as the Carter Hotel, is a historic building located in Montezuma, Iowa, United States. There has been a hotel on this corner since 1856. It was owned by a succession of people until Thomas Carroll became the proprietor and renamed it the Carroll House in 1880. It was destroyed in a fire in 1891. J.C. Forcum, a local builder, completed the New Carroll House for $18,000 in 1892. It is a three-story brick structure on a corner lot, which was emphasized by its veranda and irregular corner treatment. The hotel was individually listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979. In 2012 it was listed as a contributing property in the Montezuma Downtown Historic District.
