Mukul Balkrishna Wasnik (born 27 September 1959) is an Indian Politician and a member of the Parliament. He was the Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment in Government of India. [1] He represented the Ramtek constituency of Maharashtra from 2009 to 2014. He is a member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party. He is also a General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. In 2022, Wasnik was elected member of the Rajya Sabha.

Personal life

Wasnik was born in a Buddhist family to Veteran Congress leader and three time MP, Balkrishna Ramchandra Wasnik. [2] [3]

Political career

Earlier Wasnik represented Buldhana of Maharashtra during 8th Lok Sabha 1984–1989, 10th Lok Sabha during 1991–1996, and 12th Lok Sabha during 1998–1999. In 1984, Wasnik became the youngest Member of Parliament aged 25. He has tended to win and lose alternately. From Buldhana - winning in 1984 and losing the next in 1989, winning in 1991 and losing the next in 1996, winning in 1998 and losing in 1999. [4] Then winning from Ramtek in 2009 and losing the next one from there in 2014.

Wasnik was elected as the National President of National Students Union of India during 1984–1986.

Later Wasnik was elected as President of Indian Youth Congress during 1988–1990.

In June 2022, Wasnik was elected to the Rajya Sabha from Rajasthan on Indian National Congress nomination. [5]

Personal life

In March 2020, Mukul Wasnik married his friend Raveena Khurana at the age of 60. [6] In 2008, Wasnik suffered a brain haemorrhage. [7]

Somanahalli Mallaiah Krishna is an Indian politician who served as Minister of External Affairs of India from 2009 to October 2012. He was the 10th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1999 to 2004 and the 19th Governor of Maharashtra from 2004 to 2008. SM Krishna had served as the Speaker of the Karnataka Vidhan Sabha from December 1989 to January 1993. He was also a member of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha at various times from 1971 to 2014. In 2023, Krishna was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, the second highest civilian award of India.

Although India is a parliamentary democracy, the country's politics has become dynastic or with high level of nepotism, possibly due to the absence of party organizations, independent civil-society associations which mobilize support for a party, or centralized financing of elections. The dynastic phenomenon is present at the national, state, regional, and district level. The Nehru–Gandhi family has produced three Indian prime ministers, and family members have largely led the Congress party since 1978. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also has several dynastic leaders. In addition to the major national parties, other national and regional parties such as Shiromani Akali Dal, Shiv Sena, Samajwadi Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, Janata Dal Secular, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Kerala Congress, Jammu & Kashmir National Conference, Indian Union Muslim League, AIMIM, and the Nationalist Congress Party are all dominated by families, mostly those of the party founders.

Ram Niwas Mirdha was an Indian politician from Rajasthan. He served as member of the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly from 1953 to 1967 and as speaker of the assembly from 1957 to 1967. <span class="mw-page-title-main">Bal Krishna Sharma Naveen</span>

Bal Krishna Sharma, known under the pen name Naveen, was an Indian freedom activist, journalist, politician and a poet of Hindi literature. He was a member of the 1st Lok Sabha, representing Kanpur constituency and served the Rajya Sabha as a member from 1957 till his death. He succeeded Ganesh Shankar Vidyarthi as the editor of Pratap daily and also served as a member of the Official Languages Commission. His poetry anthologies include Kumkum, Rashmirekha, Apalak, Kwasi, Vinoba Stavan, Urmila and Hum Vishpaee Janam Ke, the last one published posthumously. The Government of India awarded him the third highest civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan, in 1960, for his contributions to literature. India Post issued a commemorative stamp on Sharma in 1989.
