Panki Thermal Power Station is located at Panki in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Its first stage was commissioned in 1967 by the then Prime Minister, Indira Gandhi. [1] It has an installed capacity of 660 Mega Watts. The power plant is owned and operated by Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam. It has a 275 Metres high chimney which is one of the tallest structures in India

Operations

The plant has been set up in three stages. The stage had two units of 32 megawatts each and it began operation in 1967 both the units ceased operations in 1998. The second stage had two units of 110 megawatts each and began operation in 1977. The machinery for the second stage was from Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited. The second stage ceased operations in 2018 and a third stage was planned. The Third Stage is under construction, it will have 1 unit of 660 Mega Watts, its foundation stone was laid by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, [2] and it will begin operation by December 2022. The coal to all these units is fed from coal mines of Bharat Coking Coal Limited, Eastern Coalfields Limited by means of Railways.

Future expansion

The state government decided in July 2014 to build a unit of 660 Mega Watts to the power plant. [5] A contract was issued by UPRVUNL to BHEL on EPC basis for construction of 1x660 MW units at Panki on 31 March 2018, with scheduled project completion in December 2022. [6]

Obra is a town, Tehsil, and Assembly constituency of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is located in the Sonebhadra district. It has been upgraded from the stature of Nagar Panchayat, and was previously a part of the Mirzapur District. Obra is located 137 km from Varanasi at the Banks of Renu & Sone River with population of 46,574 as per the 2011 India Census. State-owned UPRVUNL and UPJVUNL have a coal-fired thermal power plant and a hydroelectric power plant in Obra, respectively. The thermal and hydroelectric power industries are the major source of employment, either directly or indirectly. Obra is not very well connected by rail. The nearest railway station is Chopan, which is about 10 kilometers from Obra, and has connectivity to other major cities of India. Recreational places in Obra include Jawahar Bal Udayan, Ambedkar Stadium, Lord Shiva's temple, Sone river banks, and Parsoi and Kharatiya villages. Restructuring of government residential colony is ongoing as new power plants are being constructed.

Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam Limited (UPRVUNL) is wholly owned state thermal power utility with present generating capacity of 6134 MW, operating 4 Thermal Power Stations within Uttar Pradesh.

Anpara Thermal Power Station is located at Anpara in Sonbhadra district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 180 km (110 mi) from Varanasi on the Varanasi - Shakti Nagar route. It has a total power-generation capacity of 3850 MW using 9 units.

Harduaganj Thermal Power Station is located at Qasimpur Power House Colony which is 1 km distance from Harduaganj railway station at Harduaganj in Aligarh district in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, about 18 km from Aligarh and 105 km from Agra. It is the new electric power station established in Aligarh district; the old one is Sumera Hydroelectric Power Plant located in Jawan Sikandarpur of Aligarh district.

Neyveli Uttar pradesh Power Limited-Ghatampur Thermal Power Project is an upcoming coal-based thermal power plant located in Ghatampur in Kanpur district, Uttar Pradesh. The power plant is owned by the Neyveli Uttar Pradesh Power Limited a joint venture between Neyveli Lignite Corporation (51%) and Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Utpadan Nigam (49%).

The Anuppur Thermal Power Project or ATPP as popularly cited is a 2520-megawatt (MW) coal-based thermal power station located in Anuppur District, Madhya Pradesh, India. The project is being commissioned by Hindustan Powerprojects.

Yadadri Thermal Power Plant is an upcoming 4000 megawatt, supercritical thermal power project coming up at Dameracherla, Nalgonda district in Telangana, India. The project is second largest in South India, at a cost of ₹25,099 crores and is expected to complete by October 2021 in a phased manner. The state-owned Telangana State Power Generation Corporation Limited (TSGENCO) is building the 5 x 800 mega thermal power station, built on 2800 acres near Veerlapalem Village in Nalgonda District, the second mega project announced by the Telangana government after Bhadradri Thermal Power Plant.
