Public broadcasters receive funding from diverse sources including license fees, individual contributions, public financing and commercial financing, and avoid political interference or commercial influence.

The service primarily distributes films and television series produced by Estúdios Globo with the service also hosting content from other providers, content add-ons, live sporting events, and video rental and purchasing services. It was created on October 26, 2015, and launched in Brazil on November 3 of the same year. In 2020, it reached the milestone of 20 million registered users and became the most used national streaming service in Brazil.
