Salsig (also, Manzanita) is a former settlement in Mendocino County, California. [1] It was located at the terminus of stage coach line and later on the railroad 10 miles (16 km) southeast of Elk. [1]

Elk is an unincorporated community in Mendocino County, California. It is located 22 miles (35 km) south of Fort Bragg, at an elevation of 135 feet.

The Salsig post office opened in 1904, changed its name to Manzanita in 1912, and closed in 1915. [1] The name honored Edgar Budd Salsig, whose lumber company had mills nearby. [1]
