Strickler (formerly Stricklers) is an unincorporated community in Cove Creek Township, Washington County, Arkansas, United States. [1] It is located on Arkansas Highway 265, northwest of Devil's Den State Park. [2]

History

The area was settled by Benjamin and Mary Strickler in 1837. A post office for the Greenville community (which would become Strickler) was open from 1854 to 1874, and the Strickler post office was open through 1878–1943. The community was located on the Butterfield Overland Mail route. [3]

A second segment begins in east Fayetteville at Highway 16 and runs north through Springdale to Highway 94 in Rogers. Further north, a third segment of 3.324 miles (5.349 km) runs from Highway 94 in Pea Ridge north to the Missouri state line. The highways are maintained by the Arkansas Department of Transportation (ARDOT).

Canehill is an unincorporated community in Washington County, Arkansas, United States. The community is located in the Ozark Mountains on the outskirts of the Northwest Arkansas metropolitan area. One of the most historic communities in the state, Canehill contains seventeen listings on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The Cane Hill College began operations in 1834, which led to the rapid growth and development of the community as a center of higher education. The college and community suffered during the American Civil War, and was bypassed by the railroad, which chose a route through Lincoln. Recently, restoration and preservation of many historic buildings has been undertaken by a nonprofit organization, Historic Cane Hill Inc.
