Systellura is a genus of South American nightjars in the nightjar family Caprimulgidae.
The genus Systellura was introduced in 1912 by the American ornithologist Robert Ridgway with Stenopsis ruficervix Sclater, PL, 1866, as the type species. [1] [2] Stenopsis ruficervix is now considered to be a subspecies of Systellura longirostris, the band-winged nightjar. [3] [4] The genus name is derived from Ancient Greek συστελλω/sustellō meaning "to shorten" and ουρα/oura meaning "tail". [5]
