Umashree (born 10 May 1957) is an Indian actress and politician. She appears in Kannada cinema,particularly in character roles and supporting roles. She received the National Film Award for Best Actress for her role as Gulabi in the 2008 Kannada film Gulabi Talkies . [1]
In 2013,Umashree became a Member of the Legislative Assembly [2] in Karnataka in the government of Siddaramaiah where she was the minister for women and child development, [3] empowerment of the differently abled and senior citizens,Kannada language and culture. [4]
Umashree was born into the Devanga family. [5] [6] She has two children,a daughter named Gayathri,who is a dentist,and a son named Vijayakumar,an advocate,she raised them as a single mother.
Umashree participates in positive social activities such as supporting rural and disadvantaged women. She performs on stage in rural villages to highlight their needs. Her election in 2013 as the member for Terdal constituency (Congress Party) allowed Umashree to continue her work. Umashree is Minister for Women and Child Development,Kannada and Culture.
Umashree has experience in village,amateur,mythological and professional drama. Her directors have included Fritz Bennewitz,B.V. Karanth,Girish Karnad,C. G. Krishnaswamy,R. Nagesh,and T.S. Nagabharana. She is a member of Rangasampada amateur theatre group of Bangalore.
Umashree began her movie career in 1984 in a supporting role in Anubhava with Kashinath. But before that she was seen in a 1980 Kannada film Bangarada Jinke directed by T S Nagabharana.
However,it typecast her in comedy roles with a degree of innuendo. She worked with the actor N. S. Rao and later with Dinesh,Dwarakish,Mysore lokesh,Sihikahi chandru,Ramesh bhat,Mukhyamantri Chandru,Doddanna and Karibasavaiah. Her directors included S. V. Rajendra Singh Babu,Bhargava,Singeetham Srinivasa Rao,Perala,K V Raju,Vijay,Dorai Bhagavan,Dwairakish,D Rajendra babu,Dinesh Babu,V Ravichandran,Puri Jagannath and Yograj Bhat.
Honnasandra Narasimhaiah Chandrashekar, known popularly as Mukhyamantri Chandru, is an Indian actor and politician. As an actor, he is known for his work in Kannada theatre and cinema. The sobriquet Mukhyamantri stuck to his name after the play of the same name that sees him portray the title role became widely popular. Having portrayed mostly comic and negative roles throughout his career, Chandru is a character actor, and has acted in over 500 films since making his debut in 1983.
Vijaya Bhaskar was an Indian music director and composer who composed music for several mainstream and experimental feature films in the Kannada film industry. Mohan Shankar, popularly mononymously as Mohan, is an Indian actor, writer and film director known for his work in Kannada cinema and television. This is the second film in the Saar series directed by Babu and was released on 28 December 2001 and received generally positive reviews from the critics and turned out to be a box office hit. It completed a 100-day run in theatres. The film was remade in Telugu as Sandade Sandadi (2002), in Hindi as Shaadi No. 1 (2005) and in Bangladeshi Bengali as Tomakei Khujchi (2008).

B. C. Gowrishankar was an Indian cinematographer and an occasional film director and screenwriter who worked primarily in Kannada cinema. He was known for his unorthodox style as a cinematographer and was recognised for his work in both art and commercial films. Gowrishankar won six Karnataka State Film Awards during his career as a cinematographer. In 1988 he directed the fairly successful Elu Suttina Kote with Ambareesh, Gautami and a young Ramesh Aravind.
S. Shivaram, popularly known simply as Shivaram or Shivaramanna, was an Indian actor, producer and director whose Kannada cinema career has spanned six decades. He has played roles including lead hero performances, character roles, comedic roles, as well as supporting parts. He teamed up with his elder brother, S. Ramanathan and produced several films under the name Rashi Brothers apart from directing Hrudaya Sangama in 1972. They together produced movies directed by Puttanna Kanagal like Gejje Pooje and Upasane. They also produced Dr. Rajkumar 's 175th movie Nanobba Kalla and the Tamil movie Dharma Durai starring Rajinikanth which was a remake of the 1989 Kannada movie Deva. The brothers together produced few Bollywood films as well including the 1985 movie Geraftaar which is known to be the only Indian movie to star three stalwarts - Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth - in a single movie. As an actor, Shivaram has the distinction of working with many stalwart directors out of which his association with Puttanna Kanagal is much remembered. He has acted in all the seven Kannada movies directed by Singeetam Srinivasa Rao starring Rajkumar.
