Since its inception in 2002, the UN System Staff College has continuously adapted to respond to the learning, training and knowledge management needs of United Nations (UN) staff and relevant partners.

Contents

Each year, the Staff College offers over 262 programmes to over 84,000 professionals. Either online, face-to-face, or a combination of both, UNSSC learning solutions deliver high-quality learning experiences that support professionals along their learning journeys.

In addition, UNSSC offers an expansive array of self-directed digital offerings on Blue Line – an online learning hub for UN personnel – and on UNKampus.

History

The concept of establishing a training and learning institution for United Nations personnel was first considered in 1969. However, it wasn't until 1996 that the College began operating as a project under the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ILO).

By August 2000, the establishment of a fully-fledged United Nations System Staff College was recommended, complete with its own statutes. In July 2001, the United Nations General Assembly approved the statute for creating a new, independent learning organization within the UN. With support from the Italian government, the United Nations System Staff College (UNSSC) officially opened in Turin on January 1, 2002.

It shares its campus with the ILO's International Training Centre and the UN’s Interregional Crime and Justice Research Institute (UNICRI).

Mandate and Vision

UNSSC’s mandate is unique as there is no other organization within the UN family that is mandated by the General Assembly to build the capacity of the personnel of UN system and its stakeholders.

The Staff College was established as an institution for system-wide knowledge management, training and continuous learning for the staff of the United Nations system, in the areas of economic and social development, peace and security and internal management of the United Nations system.

Campuses

The Turin Campus serves as the UNSSC Headquarters, offering learning and training programmes primarily focused in the areas of leadership and management, and peace and security.

The UNSSC Bonn Office primarily focuses on developing learning opportunities in the areas of sustainable development, change management and organizational development, and advancing academic partnerships.

Both offer state-of-the-art teaching spaces located within buildings and surroundings of historic significance.

Leadership

Our team includes senior leaders from the UN and experts from a variety of management and global affairs backgrounds. These professionals are constantly in touch with global challenges so they can deliver value for our partners and stakeholders.
