Zhabei local authorities have developed business and commercial centres in the district. It has attracted various foreign companies to build offices,apartments and commercial retail outlets over there.
It is also where the Shanghai Multimedia Valley (SMV) is located to attract media and IT talent. Major companies located in Zhabei include TÜV Rheinland,Royal Philips Electronics and Shanghai Bell Alcatel Business Systems Co.,LTD. [2]
China Resources Beverage,the distributor of C'estbon water,has its east China regional office on the twentieth floor of the Huanzhi International Building (环智国际大厦) in the district. [3]
The League of Legends Pro League,(LPL) the highest level of professional League of Legends in Mainland China,is played in the Shanghai Electric Industrial Park in Zhabei District.
Zhabei District used to be the place of agglomeration of traditional industries such as flavor factory and tires factory. In the last decade,the municipality decided to move the old industry out in order to make space for more promising ones such as the hi-tech and creative industries.
Daning Lingshi Park,the biggest green area in the downtown area,is surrounded [4] by a series of cultural facilities such as the Zhabei Stadium and Shanghai Circus World.
The Shanghai University,Yanchang Campus is also located near the Daning Lingshi Park.

Shanghai Free-Trade Zone,officially China (Shanghai) Pilot Free-Trade Zone,is a free-trade zone in Shanghai,China. On 22 August 2013,the State Council approved the establishment of the zone. Officially launched on 29 September 2013 with the backing of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang,it is the first free-trade zone in mainland China and covers an area of 240.2 square kilometres (92.7 sq mi). Shanghai FTZ integrates four existing bonded zones in the district of Pudong—Waigaoqiao Free Trade Zone,Waigaoqiao Free Trade Logistics Park,Yangshan Free Trade Port Area and Pudong Airport Comprehensive Free Trade Zone.
Qiantan International Business Zone (Shanghai) (simplified Chinese:上海前滩国际商务区;traditional Chinese:上海前灘國際商務區;pinyin:Shànghǎi Qiántān GuójìShāngwùqū) also called the New Bund,is a newly built International Business Zone in Qiantan,Pudong,Shanghai,China,lying to the south of the former Expo 2010 site next to the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center. It is known as Shanghai's "second Lujiazui" as the Secondary Central business district developing close to Lujiazui. It will be developed specifically as another new financial district of Shanghai,but will focus more on overall urban functionality.
The Greater Shanghai Plan was a 1927 plan for the city of Shanghai,China,drawn up by the Nationalist Government of the Republic of China in Nanjing. It was presented at the 123rd meeting of the Shanghai City Government in July 1929 and as one of its provisions allocated 7,000 mu in the modern day Jiangwan Subdistrict of Shanghai's Yangpu District for the construction of a government headquarters and administration centre. Had it been completed,the government headquarters building would have stood close to the junction of today's Hengren Road (恒仁路) and the Qingyuan Ring Road (清源环路).

Jing An Kerry Centre,or Jing'an Kerry Centre,is an integrated commercial complex situated at No. 1515 Nanjing Road West in Jing'an District,Shanghai,China. The complex comprises three skyscrapers:Towers 1,2,and 3. Tower 1 stands at 132.8 meters (436 ft) tall,Tower 2 is 260 meters (850 ft) tall,and Tower 3 is 197.8 meters (649 ft) tall. The 450,000-square-meter (4,800,000 sq ft) complex features an 86,000 m2 (930,000 sq ft) retail space,152,000 m2 (1,640,000 sq ft) of office space,the Jing An Shangri-La,18,000 m2 (190,000 sq ft) of residential space,and a 136,000 m2 (1,460,000 sq ft) underground car park with 1,340 parking spaces.
The Yangshupu Waterworks is a waterworks built in 1883,and located at 830 Yangshupu Road (杨树浦路830号) in the district of Yangpu,Shanghai,China. The waterworks was the first of its kind to be built in China and provided running water for the first time to some of the cities' residents. It belongs to the Shanghai Water Company and occupies a site of 32 acres and has four major lines of tap water allowing for a maximum capacity of around 1.5 million cubic metres a day. In 2009 it supplied 400 million cubic metres of water,about 20% of the total water supply of Shanghai.
