The 3rd European Athletics Championships were held from 22 August to 25 August 1946 in the Bislett Stadion in Oslo, Norway. For the first time it was a combined event for men and women, and for the first time a city in Scandinavia hosted the championships. Contemporaneous reports on the event were given in the Glasgow Herald.

The World Athletics Road Running Championships is a biennial international road running competition organised by World Athletics. The competition was launched as the IAAF World Half Marathon Championships in 1992 and held annually until 2010. It was renamed the IAAF World Road Running Championships in 2006 and reduced in distance to a 20K run, but reverted to the half marathon distance the following year and to the original competition name the year after that. The competition was renamed to its current title in 2020 after the governing body rebranded itself moving away from the long-standing International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) moniker and expanded to include additional races.

Antonio Fabián Silio Alaguire is a retired long-distance runner from Argentina. He competed in three editions of the World Championships in Athletics, racing in the 10,000 metres. His best result was 8th in 1993. He also finished in the top six of three World Half Marathon Championships, finishing second in the inaugural World Half Marathon Championships in 1992.

Yakov Grigoryevich Tolstikov is a former Russian distance runner. Tolstivov rose to worldwide prominence following his surprise upset of favorite Gelindo Bordin in the 1991 London Marathon. He set a personal best of 2:09:17 hours at the race which went unbeaten as a Soviet record. This time was the fastest by any European in the 1991 season, and the third fastest time in the world after Kōichi Morishita and Takeyuki Nakayama of Japan.

The European Marathon Cup is a quadrennial team marathon competition between European countries. Initially a stand-alone championship race inaugurated in 1981, the race has been held in conjunction with the European Athletics Championships since 1994. Individual medallists are now included in the European Championships medal table, while team medals are awarded separately from the main championships.

The 2009 World Marathon Cup was the 13th edition of the World Marathon Cup of athletics and were held in Berlin, Germany, inside of the 2009 World Championships.

The 2011 World Marathon Cup was the 14th edition of the World Marathon Cup of athletics and were held in Daegu, South Korea, inside of the 2011 World Championships.

The 1991 Arab Athletics Championships was the seventh edition of the international athletics competition between Arab countries. It took place in Latakia, Syria from 1–4 October. A total of 39 athletics events were contested, 23 for men and 16 for women.

In 2016, the foremost athletics events will be staged at the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. The two other major global level competitions in 2016 are the World Indoor Championships and World Half Marathon Championships.

Sondre Nordstad Moen is a Norwegian long-distance runner. He set a European record in marathon in 2017 when winning the Fukuoka Marathon, a record he held for ten months. He has also held European records in 25,000 metres, and in one hour run.

Dominique Chauvelier is a French former long-distance runner who competed in marathons. His greatest international achievement was a bronze medal in the marathon at the 1990 European Athletics Championships.

The 2018 European Marathon Cup was the 11th edition of the European Marathon Cup of athletics and were held in Berlin, Germany on 12 August, inside of the 2018 European Championships.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Namibia at the 2019 World Athletics Championships</span> Sporting event delegation

Namibia competed at the 2019 World Athletics Championships in Doha, Qatar, from 27 September to 6 October 2019. The country's participation there marked its fifteenth appearance in the World Championships since its debut at the 1991 World Championships in Athletics. Namibia sent two athletes to the Championships, both of whom competed in the marathon events. Helalia Johannes became Namibia's first female medallist, and their first medallist in 26 years, when she won a bronze medal in the women's marathon. Tomas Hilifa Rainhold finished in 17th in the men's marathon.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Aruba at the World Athletics Championships</span> Sporting event delegation

Aruba has competed at the World Athletics Championships on eleven occasions. It did not send a delegation for the 1983 championships or the editions from 2001 to 2009. Its competing country code is ARU. The country has not won any medals at the competition and as of 2019 no Aruban athlete has reached the top eight of an event. Its best performance is by Cornelia Melis, who placed 21st in the 1991 women's marathon.

Jose Cesar de Souza is a retired Brazilian marathon runner who competed in the 1980s and 1990s. In the World Marathon Majors, de Souza became the second athlete from Brazil to win the Chicago Marathon when he won the 1992 event in 2:16:14. The following year, de Souza reappeared at Chicago and finished in 12th place. Outside of Chicago, de Souza was 81st in the 1991 World Marathon Cup and failed to reach the finals of the 1998 IAAF World Road Relay Championships. He also won a silver medal at the 1987 South American Championships in Athletics.

The 25K run is a long distance running footrace that is between the distance of a half marathon and a marathon. It was formerly an official world record distance in road running by World Athletics, but has since been downgraded to world best status. Separately, the Association of Road Racing Statisticians retains world records in the 25K distance. The ARRS holds different standards for records than World Athletics, with exclusions for certain point-to-point races and mixed sex races. As a result its women's world record is 1:26:34 by Nancy Conz, set in 1982.
